    Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling an electrolysis reaction of the type used to produce chlorine gas and sodium hydroxide. Bus voltage and bus current are detected and utilized in connection with a plurality of control parameters. Oscillations in bus current are detected as one control parameter which is a precursor to shorts. The anode/cathode spacing is adjusted in response to the control parameters to avoid or reduce the frequency of shorts, minimize power consumption, and otherwise improve the efficiency of operation.
