  • Publication number: 20030201879
Abstract: An apparatus for sensing pressure in vehicle tires includes an interrogator (102) for providing a tire pressure interrogation signal, and a tire pressure monitor (70) for sensing pressure within a first tire (24) of the vehicle (20) and providing an actual tire pressure signal. A first wheel speed sensor (42) associated with the first tire (24) provides a reference wheel speed signal upon movement of the vehicle (20). A second wheel speed sensor (40) associated with a second tire (22) of the vehicle (20) provides a wheel speed signal upon movement of the vehicle. A controller (60) activates the interrogator (102), monitors the actual tire pressure signal, and correlates the reference wheel speed signal with the wheel speed signal from the second wheel speed sensor (40) for determining a tire pressure value of the second tire (22).

  • Patent number: 5900529
Abstract: An apparatus (10) and an associated method for testing an acceleration sensor assembly (14), which is preferably an accelerometer assembly. An electrical exciter (34) is operated in response to an excitation signal (32) from a signal generator (30). The exciter (34) applies oscillating excitation to the accelerometer assembly (14). An initial excitation is applied to the accelerometer assembly (14) by the exciter (34). The frequency of the initial excitation is varied over a range of frequencies via a signal (62) from a frequency range sweep function (56) to the signal generator (30). The output of the accelerometer assembly (14) is monitored during application of the initial excitation over the range of frequencies. A frequency value associated with a predetermined response in the output of the accelerometer assembly (14) is stored. The excitor (34) subsequently applies a test oscillating excitation at the stored frequency value to the accelerometer assembly (14).

  • Patent number: 5737961
Abstract: An apparatus includes an accelerometer (24) for providing an analog acceleration signal indicative of crash acceleration. A sigma-delta A/D converter (26) is operatively connected to the accelerometer (24) for providing a pulse-width-modulated gate enable signal (GES) with a value indicative of the acceleration signal. The GES signal is ANDED with a clock signal to produce a pulse-density signal (CNT) indicative of the acceleration signal. A monitoring circuit determines (i) whether at least one pulse-density signal occurs when a gate enable signal is HIGH (FLAG 1), and (ii) whether the pulse-density signal occurs when the gate enable signal is LOW (FLAG 2). Other embodiments test to see if the gate enable signal is either full scale ON (FLAG 3) or full scale OFF (FLAG 4) by using a second crash sensor (64). Timing circuits (302, 316) are used to ensure that the pulse duration of at least one pulse-width modulated gate enable signal is greater than predetermined value within a predetermined time period.

  • Patent number: 5642043
Abstract: A linear position sensor includes coextensively positioned primary and secondary windings, each having an elongated core and a coil radially spaced around the core. A cyclically varying signal is applied to the primary winding which develops a signal across the secondary winding due to transformer coupling. A coupling adjustment member varies the amount of transformer coupling and is longitudinally movable with respect to the winding assembly. The relative longitudinal positioning of the coupling member with respect to the winding assembly is determined by measuring the signal developed across the secondary winding. In one embodiment, the windings are similarly configured, are arranged side-by-side and spaced apart; the coupling adjustment member enhances the transformer coupling between the windings which are telescopingly received within the member.

  • Patent number: 5635923
Abstract: A remote keyless entry vehicle receiver includes a memory that stores a security code for uniquely identifying a transmitter that is authorized entry into the vehicle. The memory also stores a broadcast code that identifies a broadcast message intended for general use by a group of vehicles, each being equipped with a similar receiver. A signal is received which includes at least a coded portion. The received coded portion is compared with each of the codes that are stored in memory. Vehicle entry is permitted when the received signal includes a coded portion that matches the stored security code. The driver is alerted and/or provided with a message when the received signal includes a coded portion that matches the stored broadcast code.

  • Patent number: 5369375
Abstract: An integrated circuit for driving a sensor includes an oscillator for providing a first clock signal synchronized to a periodic waveform supplied by an external source. A second clock signal in the form of a uni-polar square wave is derived from the first clock signal. A sinewave signal is generated by consecutively selecting voltage steps from a resistor ladder under control of the second clock signal. A low-pass filter removes from the sinewave signal higher frequency harmonics generated by switching through the steps of the resistor ladder. A linear amplifier utilizes an external capacitor to couple the filtered sinewave signal to the sensor. Temperature compensation is provided by comparing the voltage of the sinewave signal supplied to the sensor with an external temperature stable reference voltage. The integrated circuit also includes circuitry for amplitude demodulating a signal returned from the sensor to provide a sensor output signal.

  • Patent number: 5210490
Abstract: A position sensing device including two spaced conductive coils constituting a primary and secondary winding of a transformer. A coupling member is mounted to a moveable object such as an automobile steering mechanism and moves relative the primary and secondary windings. This movement adjusts or alters the transformer coupling between the primary and the secondary and produces a variable output signal which can be correlated through use of appropriate circuitry to the position of the moveable member. Two alternate designs are disclosed. In a first design, the transformer primary and secondary are disposed side-by-side and the coupling member slips over the primary and secondary for relative linear movement. In a second design, the primary and secondary are disposed one within the other and the coupling member fits within a gap between the primary and secondary.
