    Abstract: A weapon mount for mounting a night vision device to the receiver rail of a weapon. A self-adjusting cam operated connection device is present at one end region of the mount for attaching to the receiver rail, while the night vision device is connected at the other end region of the mount with a knob operated mounting screw. The knob and mounting screw are a one piece design and the mounting screw is captivated by an E-clip. The cam operated connection device may be adjusted to accommodate different size receiver rails by the provision of compressible means, such as Belleville washers.

    Abstract: Disclosed is method and system for packaging electronics with an electronic card rack of radial panels, an outer casing, a stabilizing ring, and a flex-circuit interconnect, whereby electronic cards inserted into the sectors formed by the radial panels do not carry the structural load. The card-mounted devices are optimally oriented for set back forces, and minimal potting and/or structural foam is required, if any. The present invention provides a lightweight, highly serviceable assembly that is relatively less expensive to produce, test and rework compared with potted assemblies.

    Abstract: A method for the electrochemical production of ferrate salts in an aqueous electrolyte solution comprising one or more hydroxide components. Dramatically increased yields of ferrate salts are obtained from using a mixture of sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide. Preferably, both sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide are present in concentrations greater than 5 molar, most preferably at least 10 molar, i.e., 10 M NaOH and 10 M KOH. The anode is preferably a sacrificial anode made out of an iron-containing material to supply the iron necessary for the ferrate production reaction.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a conversion coating solution containing polymetalates and/or heteropolymetalates to oxidize the surface of various metal substrates. The polymetalates have the general formula MxOyn−, where M is selected from the group comprising Mo, V and W. The heteropolymetalates have the general formula BMxOyn−, where B is a heteroatom selected from P, Si, Ce, Mn or Co, and M is again selected from Mo, V, W or combinations thereof. The concentration of polymetalates and/or heteropolymetalates anions is preferably between about 1% and about 5% by weight. Examples of typical anions used include, but are not limited to, (PMo12O40)3−, (PMo10V2O40)5−, (MnPW11O39)5−, (PW12O40)3−, (SiMo12O40)4−, (SiW12O40)4−, (Mo7O24)6−, (CeMo12O42)8−and mixtures thereof.

    Abstract: A method employing oxide film conversion coatings prepared using ferrate (VI) as the oxidizing agent is disclosed. Metal substrates or surfaces, such as aluminum, aluminum alloys or other metals, are contacted with an aqueous solution comprising ferrate (VI) anions to form a corrosion resistant conversion coating on the surface thereof. The ferrate anion concentration is preferably between about 0.0166% and about 1.66% by weight. The coating process is carried out by dipping, spraying, or painting at temperatures ranging from 25° C. to 100° C. for a period of time ranging from about 1 second to about 5 minutes.

The receiver (94) provides the radio frequency signal (24) to the electronic controller (90). The electronic controller (90) determines that the vehicle component (12) has undergone the predetermined amount of wear when the transponder (20) ceases providing the radio frequency signal (24).

    Abstract: A conversion coating solution and process forms a stable and corrosion-resistant layer on metal substrates or layers or, more preferably, on a boehmite layer or other base conversion coating. The conversion coating process involves contacting the substrate, layer or coating with an aqueous alkali metal isomolybdate solution in order to convert the surface of the substrate, layer or coating to a stable conversion coating. The aqueous alkali metal molybdates are selected from sodium molybdate (Na2MoO4), lithium molybdate (Li2MoO4), potassium molybdate (K2MoO4), or combinations thereof, with the most preferred alkali metal molybdate being sodium molybdate. The concentration of alkali metal molybdates in the solution is preferably less than 5% by weight.

    Abstract: A conversion coating process that forms a stable and corrosion-resistant oxide layer on metal or metal oxide substrates or layers. Particularly, the conversion coating process involves contacting the metal or metal oxide substrate or layer with the aqueous calcium hydroxide solutions in order to convert the surface of the substrate to a stable metal oxide layer or coating. According to the present invention, the calcium hydroxide solution is prepared by removing carbon dioxide from water or an aqueous solution before introducing the calcium hydroxide. In this manner, formation of calcium carbonate particles is avoided and the porosity of the conversion coating produced by the calcium hydroxide solution is reduced to below about 1%.

    Abstract: A press to form a composite acetabular allograft cup for use in hip replacement surgery is disclosed. The acetabular cup formed by the press comprises bone cement and cancellous bone chips. The press includes a two-piece mold for forming the acetabular cup. The mold is removable from the press and may be available in many different sizes to accommodate a range of patients. A screw-type compression means is utilized to force the acetabular cup into the desired shape. A compression gauge allows the operator to monitor the pressure applied as the acetabular cup is formed to prevent excessive crushing of cancellous bone chips. Breaking jaws are used to separate the acetabular cup from the upper portion of the mold after the bone cement has set and the acetabular cup is formed.

    Abstract: A composite allograft press comprises a loading frame and a two piece mold to form an composite allograft and in particular an acetabular cup from impacted cancellous bone chips and cement. Pressure is applied by a manually operated lever through a rack-and-pinion gear mechanism to a plunger attached to one part of the mold. Compression load switches in-line with the plunger indicate the correct loading to the mold to produce a composite allograft in which the inner surface is smooth and comprised essentially of hardened bone cement material. The outer portion of the allograft may have limited cement extrusions but the exterior of the cup primarily shows exposed cancellous bone surface. In surgery a composite allograft; e.g., an acetabular cup, is fixed in the acetabulum with bone screws to fill an acetabular defect. A plastic liner is affixed with bone cement directly to the composite allograft cup to receive the femoral component.

    Abstract: A shaped charge explosive warhead assembly is composed of a one piece shaped charge liner including an explosive initiation charge, and a main explosive charge which surrounds the shaped charge liner. The one piece shaped charge liner includes a forward thin wall section and an integral tail end section having a common longitudinal axis of symmetry. The forward thin wall section includes wall portions having a trumpet or other selected shape, and the tail end section includes a plurality of symmetrically located spoke-like apertures extending radially from the longitudinal axis of symmetry and further includes a central bore hole extending from an end surface of the tail end section and in communication with the spoke-like apertures. The spoke-like apertures and bore hole of the tail end section are filled with the explosive initiation charge. A detonator is coupled to the explosive initiation charge within the bore hole.
