  • Publication number: 20200332170
Abstract: The present disclosure relates methods of suspending at least one weighting agent in a drilling fluid. The embodiments include synthesizing carbon nanotubes via chemical vapor deposition on iron oxide catalyst nanoparticles to form a quantity of nanoparticles. Individual nanoparticles of the iron oxide catalyst nanoparticles include a transition metal disposed on iron oxide. The embodiments further include adding a quantity of nanoparticles to the drilling fluid which results in an amount of carbon nanotubes dispersed within the drilling fluid. The dispersion of the quantity of nanoparticles increases the value of at least one of a Newtonian viscosity, a yield point, a plastic viscosity, and a density of the drilling fluid with the dispersed nanoparticles versus a similar or equivalent drilling fluid without the nanoparticle dispersion. The method may further include adding at least one weighting agent which will become suspended in the drilling fluid.

  • Publication number: 20200291286
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to the creation of emulsifiers for use in an oil-based drilling mud. The disclosed emulsifiers may be created by the reaction of synthetic linear saturated fatty acids and polyamines under the conditions specified. The synthesized product may be used as a replacement for the wetting agent in conventional muds. Further improvements in conventional drilling muds are also disclosed where the synthesized product is used to replace incumbent wetting agents and the primary emulsifiers are replaced by synthetic fatty acids.

  • Publication number: 20200199432
Abstract: Embodiments provide a mortar slurry and a method for preparing a hardened mortar. The method includes the steps of: mixing an aramide capsule, a cement, a silica, and a water to form a mortar slurry; and allowing the mortar slurry to set to form the hardened mortar, where the aramide capsule is embedded in the hardened mortar. A continuous solvent and a surfactant are mixed to produce a continuous phase. A dispersed solvent and a dispersed monomer are mixed to produce a dispersed phase. The continuous solvent and a crosslinker are mixed to produce a crosslinker solution. The continuous phase and the dispersed phase are mixed to form a mixture having an emulsion such that the dispersed phase is dispersed as droplets in the continuous phase, where an interface defines the droplets of the dispersed phase dispersed in the continuous phase. The crosslinker solution is added to the mixture such that the crosslinker reacts with the dispersed monomer.
