  • Patent number: 7784576
Abstract: Mechanisms are described for selectively closing grille and/or bumper openings. These mechanisms may be operated in response to one or more vehicle parameters. Closure mechanism control signals may be delivered to such mechanisms along a vehicle databus. In addition, vehicle parameters used in determining the control of such mechanisms may be sensed and provided along the databus to a controller which then processes the parameter information for determining whether to open or close the vehicle grille closing mechanism and/or the vehicle bumper opening closing mechanism.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 24, 2008
Date of Patent: August 31, 2010
Assignee: Daimler Trucks North America LLC
Inventors: Matthew Guilfoyle, Carl Trabant, Changhyun Shin, Michael von Mayenburg

  • Patent number: 7303219
Abstract: An exemplary interlocking bumper for mounting to frame rails of a vehicle is illustrated with a respective first bumper mounting receptacle coupled to each frame rail, such as by a frame rail mounting bracket. The interlocking bumper can further include a center bumper reinforcement that includes projections that are insertable into the first bumper mounting receptacles. Each projection of the center bumper reinforcement can define a second bumper mounting receptacle. Furthermore, the interlocking bumper can include first and second end cap bumper reinforcements each including a projection that is insertable into one of the second bumper mounting receptacles.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 6, 2005
Date of Patent: December 4, 2007
    Assignee: Freightliner, LLC
