  • Patent number: 8554200
Abstract: An approach for providing interference measurements for device-to-device communication is disclosed. A logic generates a control signal to instruct a plurality of stations to perform measurement relating to interference or path loss by the stations. The logic then receives measurement information from the stations and determines, based on the measurement information, whether resources are to be scheduled to provide direct communication between two of the stations.

  • Patent number: 8107968
Abstract: A system for managing the simultaneous operation of a plurality of radio modems in a single wireless communication device (WCD). The multiradio control may be integrated into the WCD as a subsystem responsible for scheduling wireless communications by temporarily enabling or disabling the plurality of radio modems within the device. The multiradio control system may comprise a multiradio controller (MRC) and a plurality dedicated radio interfaces. The radio interfaces are dedicated to quickly conveying delay sensitive information to and from the radio modems. The modems may further include control features that take information from the MRC as an input in determining the priority of messages to be sent out to a receiving device. Uplink and/or downlink operations might, for instance, be performed. Instruction that operation can commence prior to an assigned time period might, for example, be provided. Channel contention might, for instance, be initiated in response to the instruction.

  • Publication number: 20110106952
Abstract: An apparatus for providing coordination of device to device communication may include a processor. The processor is configured to communicate a request for a resource allocation to a network communication node (300). The resource allocation is related to resources usable for device to device communication between a first terminal communicating the request and a second terminal. The processor is further configured to receive a resource allocation including an amount and duration of resources to be used for the device to device communication in response to the request (310), and utilize the resource allocation for device to device communication with the second terminal (320).

  • Publication number: 20110069630
Abstract: An approach is provided for cooperatively sharing spectrum. A threshold value associated with an acceptable level of interference to a first radio network is determined. A beacon message specifying the threshold value is generated for transmission from the first radio network to one or more nodes of a second radio network that is configured to exchange traffic for mobile services. The first radio network and the second radio network share spectral resources including adjacent bands for the respective radio networks, and the beacon message is used for controlling the level of interference to the first radio network caused by the one or more nodes of the second radio network.

  • Publication number: 20080070510
Abstract: Various embodiments are disclosed relating to techniques for managing interference among nodes in a wireless network. According to an example embodiment, a first measurement of a first interference activity may be determined at a first wireless node in a wireless network. A determination may be made that the first interference activity is unacceptable based on the first measurement. A first interference report including an indication of the unacceptable first interference activity may be sent to a second wireless node for transmission to a base station for processing by the base station. According to an example embodiment, an interference report including an indication of an unacceptable first interference activity for a first wireless node in a wireless network may be received. At least one adaptation parameter value may be determined based on the interference report. An adaptation message including the at least one adaptation parameter may be transmitted.

  • Publication number: 20070287469
Abstract: The invention relates to sharing a radio spectrum between a first radio system and a second radio system which co-exist so that the radio spectrum is shared at least locally. A radio access point of the first radio system is provided with information on the co-existing second radio system and the constraints it causes to user terminals operating in the service area of the radio access point. The radio access point may retrieve or obtain information about the other radio system by any appropriate, such from a centralized database. Based on the information the radio access point creates and broadcasts beacon or control information to user terminals operating in the service area of the radio access point, to thereby enable the user terminals to adjust their operation so that they can co-exist with the second radio system. Thus, there are two processes: information retrieval about another (second) system and signalling of the spectrum sharing information.

  • Publication number: 20060268746
Abstract: Various embodiments are disclosed relating to beacon transmissions in wireless networks. In an example embodiment, a wireless node may receive a beacon from one or more wireless nodes. The receiving node may generate and transmit a beacon map to other wireless nodes in the network. The beacon map may provide information relating to one or more of the received beacons, such as a time stamp or other time information for the beacon and the originating wireless node for the beacon, such as an address of the originating wireless node. In an example embodiment, the beacon map may be transmitted upon request or within a beacon, or within another message. In another example embodiment, a beacon map may be received at a receiving wireless node, including information relating to beacons from one or more other wireless nodes. A status of at least one of the beacons may be determined based upon the beacon map.

  • Publication number: 20060268716
Abstract: Various embodiments are disclosed relating to traffic prioritization techniques for wireless networks. In an example embodiment, different priorities may be applied to uplink traffic and downlink traffic at one or more nodes or mesh points in a wireless network, such as within a wireless meshed network, for at least some traffic. In another example embodiment, a first set of QoS parameters may be used for uplink traffic while a second set of QoS parameters may be used for downlink traffic for one or more nodes within a wireless network, for at least some traffic. According to another example embodiment, local or intra-cell traffic may be prioritized differently than inter-cell traffic for a mesh point within a wireless meshed network, for at least some traffic. For example, local or intra-cell traffic may be prioritized over inter-cell traffic for a mesh point within a wireless meshed network.

  • Publication number: 20060079240
Abstract: A subcarrier assignment apparatus and a subcarrier assignment method, in which each of a plurality of Base Stations (BSs) constituting an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) communication system provides services in the capacity of a serving BS to Mobile Stations (MSs). Channel quality information for the respective MSs are fed-back from the respective BSs. Subcarriers are assigned to the respective MSs according to a corresponding scheduling scheme in consideration of the channel quality information for the respective MSs, which are fed-back from the respective BSs, and then BSs which manage the subcarriers assigned to the respective MSs according to the corresponding scheduling scheme are selected. These operations provide site diversity to each of the MSs, and thus system capacity is maximized.
