    Abstract: In fabric laundry procedures, commercial and household laundry detergent compositions commonly contain an optical brightener composition. Brighteners adjust the optical properties of the fabric in such a way that the fabric appears to be white even after repeated washings. Often white fabrics can yellow during use. Fluorescent optical brighteners having an optical blue aspect, mask the yellowing of the fabric. Common laundry detergents fail to have sufficient brightening capacity to brighten heavily soiled white cotton items used in household, commercial, institutional or fast-food food surface. A process for improving the whiteness of soiled white cotton, preferably terry cloth, items involves contacting the soiled white fabric item with a presoak containing an effective proportion of a fluorescent optical brightener composition, removing the item from the presoak and separating the presoak composition from the fabric item producing an extracted item.

    Abstract: A diverter member is installed in a dishwasher to reduce detergent consumption therein. The diverter member includes an upwardly disposed liquid receiving surface in fluid communication with a drain for receiving a portion of the rinse liquid sprayed on dishware in a rinse section of the dishwasher to increase the amount of rinse liquid communicated to the drain. A lesser amount of rinse liquid returns to the wash tank, thereby reducing dilution of the wash liquid and consumption of detergent.

    Abstract: An apparatus for diluting and dispensing a liquid concentrate with a liquid diluent to form a use solution wherein the use solution has a higher viscosity than either the concentrate or the diluent is provided. The apparatus includes an aspirator, a liquid diluent conducting path, a liquid concentrate conducting path, and a liquid conducting outlet path. The aspirator has a first inlet port, a second inlet port, and an outlet port. The first inlet port is connected to the liquid diluent conducting path for receiving a stream of the liquid diluent and the second inlet port is connected to the liquid concentrate conducting path for receiving a stream of the liquid concentrate at atmospheric pressure. The liquid conducting outlet is connected to the outlet port for dispensing the use solution from the apparatus. The geometry of the aspirator nozzle and the fluid passageways in the dispenser are adapted to a high viscosity dilute product.
