Abstract: An elevator mechanism is provided for use in a multiple tier car parking system and which is controllable to hoist the cars vertically to different levels of the structure and to move the cars horizontally at each level to different parking stalls or bins on the individual tiers. The elevator frame is supported on the second floor level of the structure, as described in U.S. Pat. No. 2,714,456, to permit it to pass over occupied ground level zones during its horizontal travel. The elevator platform is controlled by a usual elevator winch and counterweight assembly, and it also uses one or more vertical lead screw drives for auxiliary hoisting, floor levelling and safety redundancy purposes, to prevent sag of the platform, and for other purposes to be described.

Abstract: A multiple story parking apparatus has rows of storage stalls on each upper floor which are separated by a crane-way. A horizontally movable elevator is mounted in each of the crane-ways. A self-propelled traverse dolly is carried on the elevator platform, and the dolly moves in and out of the various stalls to deposit the cars in the stalls and to retrieve the cars from the stalls. The stalls in the center storage unit are open at both ends to the adjacent crane-ways, so that cars may be loaded into the center storage unit from each end. In order to prevent dollies entering one end of the stalls of the center unit from moving through the other end and falling to the ground, springloaded pivotally mounted barrier are provided at the two ends of each of the stalls in the center storage unit.

Abstract: A car parking system comprising a plurality of spaced, multiple tier parking structures, separated by craneways, and horizontally and vertically movable cranes in the craneways for storing a large number of cars in a given area. A lift platform is provided on the ground story for elevating the cars a particular distance up from the ground to permit them to be received by traverse dollies and loaded into the elevator platforms of the cranes; and which also permit the cart to be unloaded from the cranes by reversing the process.
