  • Patent number: 4936487
Abstract: An apparatus for treating burn and scald wounds and localized disorders on portions of the human body which involves rapid cooling thereof by spraying a liquid from a first hand-held container onto the human body portion to be treated to form thereon a film of the liquid. Thereafter, a refrigerant is sprayed onto the film of liquid from a second hand-held container, the refrigerant being at a temperature low enough and at a flow rate high enough to freeze a substantial portion of the film of liquid. The human body portion is thereby rapidly cooled by heat absorbed by the frozen film.

  • Patent number: 4922936
Abstract: A dental cleaner in the nature of a toothpick has an elongated stable support which is covered with fine plastic flock particles of a small diameter in order to effectively clean small gaps between the teeth, between bridge anchors and in the sulcus region and to function as a type of "micro-bottle cleaner" for the spaces where plaque needs to be cleaned from the teeth.

  • Patent number: 4865025
Abstract: The apparatus of the invention enables positioning a drilling guide parallel to the axes of transversal holes in the broach without seeing the holes. To this effect the drilling guide is adjustable with one degree of freedom on a mounting, the adjustment being effected as a function of positional information relating to the axis of the hole and sensed by mechanical feeler means which may be inserted into the broach. After this positioning is done by the apparatus according to the invention, a translation of the drilling guide may be done quickly by any conventional means in order to compensate for the distance between the axis of the drilling guide and the axis of the hole.

  • Patent number: 4802480
Abstract: A method of treating burns and scald wounds on the human body by rapid cooling which includes spraying liquid from a hand-held container and directing the liquid to the portion of the human body to be treated to form a film of liquid and then spraying and directing onto the film of liquid from a second hand-held container a refrigerant at a temperature low enough and a flow rate high enough to freeze a substantial portion of the film of liquid so that the human body is rapidly cooled by the heat absorbed from the frozen film. An apparatus accomplishing the method includes a portable hand-holdable support with two containers, one having sprayable liquid and the other having a refrigerant.

  • Patent number: 4711375
Abstract: This device includes a water container (1) with a pump (8), an operating button (4) and a spray nozzle (5). A second container (2) holds a refrigerant which is released through a second spray nozzle (7) by pressing on a second button (24). As a first aid measure, a film of water is first sprayed on the burn wound and then is frozen by means of the refrigerant. In this way, an immediate and drastic reduction in pain is achieved. Since the heat is rapidly and effectively dissipated from the injured tissue, substantially fewer burn toxins are formed so the healing prospects are greatly improved. The subsequent scar tissue formation on the wound is much better from a cosmetic standpoint. This device may be constructed in a small and handy form and therefore can be kept ready to use wherever there is the risk of burn and scald wounds.

  • Patent number: 4445372
Abstract: The balancing machine comprises a rotation shaft whereon the body to be balanced can be mounted, a supporting structure for the shaft, and a carrying member for the supporting structure, in the form of a resiliently flexible plate. Detector means are provided for detecting the vibration generated by the unbalance of the body to be balanced and transferred thereto through the resilient plate, and means for imparting rotation to the shaft.

  • Patent number: 4103532
Abstract: This invention relates to a device for measuring the damping effect of motor vehicle suspensions. The device according to the invention comprises operating means for imparting a periodic vertical oscillating movement to a motor vehicle suspension, first and second sensor means for transducting into corresponding electrical signals the instantaneous force transmitted to the suspension and the instantaneous displacements of the point of application of said oscillating movement to the suspension, first processing means for calculating and integrating over one cycle the scalar product of said signals and second processing means for dividing said integrated scalar product by a quantity proportional to the product of the oscillation frequency and the square of the oscillation amplitude.
