  • Patent number: 9122843
Abstract: A method is presented for monitoring software product usage in a data processing system. The method may include installing an instance of a software product on a target entity of a data processing system. A usage condition applicable to the instance may be identified. Reconciliation information may be generated upon installation of the instance. This reconciliation information may correlate the usage condition with the instance to facilitate later determining compliance of the software product with applicable usage conditions.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 3, 2008
Date of Patent: September 1, 2015
    Assignee: International Business Machines Corporation

  • Patent number: 4222083
Abstract: The apparatus is adapted to simultaneously treating a pair of magnetic tape cassettes. The apparatus comprises two pairs of hubs, which cooperate with the reels of the magnetic tapes, and which can rotate in both directions at a substantially constant angular speed under the control of a single electric motor. A pair of magnetic heads are employed for writing and/or reading binary information on the two tapes. The data read by the heads are regarded as information only if they exceed a predetermined threshold value defined by a voltage generator. A control circuit, comprising a variable gain amplifier, maintains the ratio between the peak of the data detected and the value of the threshold substantially constant, taking into account the variations of the linear speed of the tapes.

  • Patent number: 4222082
Abstract: In an apparatus for recording binary information on a flexible magnetic disk, a plate, is provided connected to an electric motor, for rotating the disk, and a spiral guide is formed on a first surface of the plate for moving a recording head radially with respect to the disk, in synchronism with the rotation of the plate and the disk. The improvement comprises an electronic circuit, which controls the angular speed of the motor, and quickly accelerates the motor, when the last binary information has been recorded on the disk, for shortening the time taken by the head to return to the rest position.

  • Patent number: 3965405
Abstract: A direct current motor driving and control system comprising a permanent-magnet direct-current motor with a rotor winding not having an iron core, a source of a reference voltage which rises in magnitude with a certain slope to a normal running level in response to a start command and falls again with a certain slope in response to a stop command, a drive circuit responsive to the reference voltage for feeding energizing current to the rotor winding, a resistor in series with the motor arranged to develop a feedback voltage proportional to the speed of the motor and a combining circuit arranged to apply the feedback voltage to act in combination with the reference voltage to establish a positive feedback action serving to compensate variations of the speed of the motor.

  • Patent number: 3943569
Abstract: This apparatus is used for recording and/or playing back a magnetic tape contained in a cassette provided with a hole for receiving a capstan roller and edge apertures for receiving a pressure roller adapted to press the tape against the capstan roller and a recording and/or reading head. The pressure roller is rotatably mounted between two parallel support levers which are pivotally mounted on the base about the same pivotal axis. A third lever pivoted about the said axis is coupled to the support levers by a lost motion coupling allowing limited relative pivotal mouvement between the support levers on the one hand and the third lever on the other hand. This apparatus further comprises a single actuation member which is movably mounted on the base to move the third lever to a position in which the pressure roller is moved into its position of engagement.
