    Abstract: An apparatus for handling resets corresponding to multiple reset domains comprises a transport network interconnecting elements to enable data to be transferred from one element to another, ingress circuitry to couple elements to the transport network, and egress circuitry to couple the transport network to the elements. The ingress circuitry couples source elements to the transport network, and is responsive to receiving data from a source element to generate at least one transport packet in order to send that data over the transport network. Each transport packet comprises a reset domain indicator indicative of the reset domain in which the source element operates. The egress circuitry couples the transport network to destination elements and, whilst a reset of a particular reset domain is asserted, discards transport packets for which the reset domain indicator indicates the particular reset domain.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for detection of peak wavelength values of colorimetric resonant optical biosensors using tunable filters and tunable lasers is provided. Biomolecular interactions may be detected on a biosensor by directing collimated white light towards a surface of the biosensor. Molecular binding on the surface of the biosensor is indicated in a shift in the peak wavelength value of the reflected or transmitted light from the biosensor, while an increase in the wavelength corresponds to an increase in molecular absorption. A tunable laser light source may generate the collimated white light and a tunable filter may receive the reflected or transmitted light and pass the light to a photodiode sensor. The photodiode sensor then quantifies an amount of the light reflected or transmitted through the tunable filter as a function of the tuning voltage of the tunable filter.

    Abstract: A vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) is described using a sub-wavelength grating (SWG) structure that has a very broad reflection spectrum and very high reflectivity. The grating comprises segments of high and low refractive index materials with an index differential between the high and low index materials. By way of example, a SWG reflective structure is disposed over a low index cavity region and above another reflective layer (either SWG or DBR). In one embodiment, the SWG structure is movable, such as according to MEMS techniques, in relation to the opposing reflector to provide wavelength selective tuning. The SWG-VCSEL design is scalable to form the optical cavities for a range of SWG-VCSELs at different wavelengths, and wavelength ranges.
