  • Publication number: 20140153489
Abstract: User equipment (UE) may include dual mode devices that enable two different radio access technologies (RATs) for connection to wireless communication networks. Recently, these RATs have been used for message splitting in which a message is split into two packet flows, for example, that may enable increased throughput to the (UE). Dynamic mobility management may be provided for the UE by allowing a converged gateway (CGW) to discover the UE. For example, the CGW may identify the UE in communication a first CGW that may be within a first subnet. The CGW may store the identity of the WTRU in the memory. The CGW may transmit the identity of the UE to a second CGW that may be in communication with a second subnet.

  • Patent number: 8737920
Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing radio resources in one or more wireless communication networks. At least one radio resource manager (RRM) is provided within a network node, or as an independent entity. The RRM monitors performance on wireless communication links of the network(s) and interacts with nodes associated with those links to change the configuration on a particular wireless communication link if its performance (i.e., quality) falls below an established threshold. Information regarding current resource usage of the network is sent to the RRM by the nodes. Each of the nodes may send a quality report to the RRM including wireless communication link quality measurements and performance statistics. Alternatively, the RRM may perform the wireless communication link quality measurements. The RRM facilitates the broadcasting of information regarding current resource usage of one network to other networks to avoid collisions and interference.

  • Patent number: 8699525
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for confirming the delivery of a data packet in a mesh network by sending an acknowledgement (ACK) to an ingress mesh point (IMP). A mesh network comprises a plurality of mesh points that are wirelessly linked together. A data packet sent by a station (STA) is received by an IMP. A MAC frame is generated for transmission of the data packet and the frame is forwarded to an egress mesh point (EMP) in order to provide a service by the mesh network. The MAC frame includes a field comprising an IMP address and an EMP address. When the EMP, (or optionally an intermediate mesh point), receives a data packet successfully, the EMP or the intermediate mesh point sends an ACK to the IMP or preceding mesh point.

The AP can advertise its emergency call capabilities in a beacon frame, a probe response frame, a reassociation response frame, or a reauthentication response frame. The station can announce its emergency call capabilities in an association request frame, a reassociation request frame, an authentication request frame, or a reauthentication request frame.

  • Patent number: 8675622
Abstract: In a wireless local area network including an access controller (AC) and an access points (AP), the AC transmits a functionality inquiry to the AP. Upon receiving the inquiry, the AP transmits a query response including the functional capabilities of the AP. The AC then generates a map of the functional capabilities present in the network based on the inquiry response. Conflicting or redundant functional capabilities are identified and are disabled, enabled, or reconfigured by instructions from the AC. The AC may selectively enable and/or disable functional capabilities at nodes in the network to provide a more balanced load on the network, and to provide for load sharing by allocating functionalities between and among network nodes having common functional capabilities to satisfy a variety of situations encountered in the network.

  • Publication number: 20140004871
Abstract: A radio resource control unit configured to determine values for use by radio resource management functions includes a measurement reception and storing unit and a measurement processing unit. The measurement reception and storing unit is configured to obtain and store air interface actual values and predictive values; and generate and store a timestamp indicating a time when each actual or predictive value is obtained. The measurement processing unit is configured to process the actual and predictive values to provide an output value; determine an occurrence of a transient period, which is a period of time when a radio link is unstable; and determine whether the actual value is valid by comparing the timestamp of the actual value to the occurrence of the transient period, and on a condition that the timestamp is within the transient period, then the actual value is determined to be not valid.

  • Publication number: 20130231121
Abstract: A method and system is disclosed for communicating data using diverse radio access technologies (RATs) in a wireless communication system. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) may transmit data over a first channel using a first radio access technology (RAT) and a network node may receive information that indicates that the WTRU is operating on the first channel using the first RAT. The network node may determine, based on the RAT being used by the WTRU, that the WTRU should move to a second channel prior to a quiet period on the first channel. The network node may transmit a first command to the WTRU that indicates that the WTRU should move to the second channel. The WTRU may move from the first channel to the second channel in response to receiving the first command and the WTRU may transmit data over the second channel using the first RAT.

  • Patent number: 8520581
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for a proxy mobile Internet protocol (PMIP) supporting a dedicated multicast local mobility anchor (LMA) and mobile access gateway (MAG) is provided. The LMA assigns an Internet Protocol (IP) address to a wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) that processes the IP address and sends a router solicitation message to a serving MAG. A WTRU is disclosed to receive a first IP address that is for unicast service and a second IP address that is for multicast services. Generally, the method and apparatus proposes architecture, interfaces, and procedures to enable multicast mobility using Proxy Mobile IP. More specifically operations of aggregated PMIP tunnels for multicast services are described. Multicast mobility is enabled when mobile nodes move from one MAG to another MAG, intra-LMA, and inter-LMA. And, Multicast mobility is enabled between bidirectional network and downlink only multicast network in a hybrid network.
