Publication number: 20240065612Abstract: Various examples are provided related to breast cancer detection. In one example, a method includes measuring a first temperature of a discrete location on the surface of the breast; emitting electromagnetic radiation into the breast at the discrete location and cause the tissue to generate heat; enabling the generated heat to reach the surface of the breast; measuring a second temperature of the discrete location on the surface of the breast; determining a temperature differential between the first and second temperatures; and determining whether or not cancerous tissue exists within the breast at the discrete location based upon the temperature differential. In another example, a system includes a plurality of electromagnetic emitters; a plurality of temperature sensors co-located with the electromagnetic emitters; and a control unit configured to activate the electromagnetic emitters and to receive temperature measurements taken by the temperature sensors.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 2, 2020Publication date: February 29, 2024Inventors: Babak Fahimi, Carlos Caicedo-Narvaez, Yinan Li

Patent number: 9728361Abstract: A piezoelectric multiplexer includes an actuator and multiple piezo-morph beams. The actuator includes an actuator conducting head and an actuator stem, and each piezo-morph beam includes a conducting beam contact head and a beam stem manufactured out of piezo-morph material. A control voltage is selectively applied to electrical contacts coupled to the beam stems to create a piezoelectric effect that bends the selected piezo-morph beam and creates an electrical connection between its contact head and the conducting head of the actuator. A control circuit with a controller signals which piezo-morph beam to connect to the actuator. This multi-piezo-morph-beam piezoelectric multiplexer can be affixed to the electrical terminals of different electrical components (e.g., a transistor) to create an electrical cell that can be manufactured on a semiconductor chip or in a microelectromechanical system (MEMS) device.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2015Date of Patent: August 8, 2017Assignee: 19th Space ElectronicsInventors: Lizon Maharjan, Babak Fahimi, Daniel Christopher Dial, Joseph Hearron, Job Timothy Brunet, Carlos Caicedo-Narvaez, Arash Hassanpour Isfahani

Publication number: 20160293829Abstract: A piezoelectric switching element includes an actuator and multiple piezoelectric-morphing beams. The actuator includes a conducting head and an actuator stem, and each piezoelectric-morphing beam includes a beam contact head of conductive material and a beam stem manufactured out of bimorph material. A control voltage is selectively applied to electrical contacts coupled to the beam stems to create a piezoelectric effect that axially stretches the selected piezoelectric-morphing beam to push the beam contact head along a single axis of movement toward the actuator conducting head to create an electrical connection between the contact head and the conducting head. A controller signals which piezoelectric-morphing beam to connect to the actuator. This multi-piezoelectric switching element can be affixed to the electrical terminals of different electrical components (e.g.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 1, 2015Publication date: October 6, 2016Applicant: 19TH SPACE ELECTRONICSInventors: Lizon Maharjan, Joseph Hearron, Job Timothy Brunet, Arash Hassanpour Isfahani, Carlos Caicedo-Narvaez
