  • Patent number: 6401552
Abstract: A centrifuge tube for collecting and dispensing a mixed concentrated fluid sample. The centrifuge tube has an elongated tube body with an open top end and a bottom end preferably having a dispensing spout. A divider insert is positioned inside the inner volume of the tube body to divide the inner volume into upper and lower chambers. The divider insert has a funnel shape with an inverted conical section and a funnel spout having a spout tip. The spout tip extends into the lower chamber while remaining above the bottom end. Upon filling the upper chamber with a fluid and subjecting it to centrifugal forces inside a centrifuge, a concentrated fluid sample is collected in the lower chamber with an air pocket captured between the spout tip and the divider insert. The concentrated fluid sample may then be agitated to mix the sedimented solids with the liquid of the concentrated fluid sample, and the now mixed concentrated fluid sample subsequently dispensed through the dispensing spout.

  • Patent number: 4441793
Abstract: A microscopic evaluation slide for viewing liquid specimens. The slide has a viewing area having side walls extending up from a base and completely surrounding the viewing area. A transparent cover sheet is permanently affixed to the side walls and has at least one opening passing into the viewing area. Liquid samples to be viewed are injected through the opening into the viewing area.

  • Patent number: 4308028
Abstract: A device for facilitating the microscopic and/or spectrophotometric viewing of liquid specimens. The device is an elongated strip having a chamber at one end. The chamber is formed by two generally parallel transparent flat sheets. The device is held by a supporting disc or plug which has a slot or chamber formed for insertion of the strip. The strip with its surrounding disc or plug is inserted in a test tube which has a disc-supporting shoulder formed near the bottom thereof. The disc or plug traps a certain amount of liquid below the shoulder near the bottom of the test tube.

  • Patent number: 4119125
Abstract: Method and apparatus for handling a liquid sample such as a blood sample, which has been processed to obtain phase separation of the sample's components. The apparatus includes a cup for containing a quantity of the separated fluid phase of the sample, a suction cylinder and probe usable with the cup for extracting the fluid phase and an associated container for holding the remainder of the sample. Preferably, the cup has a specific configuration which provides for nesting within the top portion of the container and concurrently provides for tight sliding engagement with the inside surface of the suction cylinder to extract the fluid phase by a piston-like cooperation. An optional thin sleeve may be inserted over the bottom portion of the cup, prior to nesting, to prevent contamination of the outside walls thereof.
