    Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided to enable or aid network-controlled selection of an IP address (and anchor) to be used by a WTRU on an application/service basis. In one example, a method is provided for a WTRU to establish a link with a gateway, transmit a query related to a selected application via the gateway, receive an advertisement for an internet protocol (IP) address, and use the IP address to communicate via the gateway with respect to the selected application. It may be assumed that there are more than one possible IP address/anchor available for the WTRU to use, as it might be the case in a mobility environment, in which an operator can provide addresses with different mobility capabilities.

    Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are described for dynamic medium access control (MAC) address distribution in a wireless network. A station (STA) may receive, from an access point (AP), a frame that includes an indicator indicating at least one MAC address type or MAC address policy supported by an extended service set (ESS) associated with the AP. The indicator may comprise an 8 bit bitmap. The STA may then transmit, to the AP, a request message that includes MAC Address Assignment Protocol information determined based on the at least one MAC address type or MAC address policy. The STA may receive a response message that includes a local medium access control (MAC) address assigned based on the MAC Address Assignment Protocol information. The STA may transmit, to the AP, an association request frame with the local MAC address.

    Abstract: A method for use in a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) for configuring a privacy protocol stack profile, including private addresses for the WTRU is described herein. For example, the WTRU may determine if it is in an unknown location and may set a profile of the WTRU to public network, and may set the MAC and IP addresses and other protocol identifiers to random, opaque and non-persistent. The method also includes receiving information about neighboring networks, which may then be used to determine profile options based on context of the neighboring networks. Available profile options based on the determination may be displayed and selected via a user input. Each layer of a protocol stack may be then instructed to use privacy and security settings based on the selected profile, which may include anonymous or random dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) parameters.

    Abstract: User-specific virtual networks may be created within one or more physical wireless networks. For example, user-specific virtual networks may follow one or more wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs) within a network, such as a WiFi network. A network controller may create and manage a plurality of Service Set Identifications (SSIDs), create virtual access points (APs), and assign virtual AP identifiers for a plurality of WTRUs. The network controller may request physical APs to create the virtual APs with the assigned virtual AP identifiers. Switches and routers may be configured so that each of the plurality of WTRUs has a user-specific virtual router and routing path to the user-specific virtual router. The network controller may reconfigure the switches and routers to maintain the user-specific virtual router and routing path as changes occur in the network.
