  • Patent number: 5674348
Abstract: Modular apparatus is disclosed for moistening and sealing an envelope flap. The apparatus comprises a base, in which a moistener is disposed and in which part of a transporter for moving an envelope to and past the moistener is also disposed. A cover in which the remaining portion of the transporter is disposed is pivoted to the base so that the cover may be pivoted open to expose the envelope path and the parts of the transporter in the base and in the cover. A pair of sealing rollers, one mounted to the base and the other to the cover, are disposed in the same module as the moistener downstream from the moistener. Providing part of the transporter in the base and part in the cover, and pivotally mounting the cover to base enables one to quickly gain access to the envelope path simply by unlatching the cover and pivoting it away from the base. This enables an operator to quickly gain access to the envelope path to remove a jammed envelope.

  • Patent number: 5454554
Abstract: The present invention provides an improvement for a document feeder comprising a feed deck, a separator assembly for separating and feeding individual documents, the separator assembly including a separator wheel disposed above the feed deck, drive structure for driving the separator wheel, and structure for adjustably positioning the separator wheel assembly to a position relative to the feed deck commensurate with the material being fed. The improvement comprises structure for pivotally coupling the document feeder to vertical frame members. The coupling structure is located at one end of the document feeder near the separator assembly. There are a pair of leg members extending below the feed deck, each of the leg members resting on a horizontal frame member at opposite sides of the document feed path. The leg members are laterally spaced so as not to interfere with documents being conveyed by the underlying document transport.

  • Patent number: 5152122
Abstract: A method of adjusting inserting apparatus capable of inserting a plurality of documents into envelopes of varying size. The method includes locating an envelope with an open flap on a template having a plurality of scales thereon for determining whether or not the inserting apparatus can accommodate the size of the envelope placed on the template and for adjusting a plurality of adjustable mechanical elements of the inserting apparatus in order to process the envelope placed on the template, and adjusting the mechanical elements in accordance with the readings on the scales.
