  • Publication number: 20130303161
Abstract: A roaming telephone user in a visited network dialing a long-distance number is transferred to a substitute telephone number which is local to that network and belongs to a service center. Typically, the visited network contacts the user's home network for permission to complete the long-distance call. When that happens, the home network obtains the substitute number from a database on a telephone number server, based upon the location of the visited network, and responds to the visited network, instructing it to forward the user's call to the substitute telephone number. When the service center receives the roaming user's telephone call, it contacts the telephone number server and obtains the original long-distance number, which is stored in the database in association with the substitute telephone number. The service center is then able to route the roaming users call efficiently and cost-effectively by making use of its base of service providers.

  • Patent number: 8356353
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for providing computer network attack simulation. The method includes the steps of: receiving a network configuration and setup description; simulating the network configuration based on the received network configuration; receiving at least one confirmed vulnerability of at least one computer, machine, or network device in the simulated network; receiving a method for compromising the confirmed vulnerability of the at least one computer, machine, or network device; and virtually installing a network agent on the at least one computer, machine, or network device, wherein the network agent allows a penetration tester to execute arbitrary operating system calls on the at least one computer, machine, or network device.

  • Publication number: 20070064616
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for managing a voice call over a packet switched network, in which the voice call is rerouted when voice quality is below a predetermined level. In particular, the voice quality is determined by calculating a parameter representing the voice quality based on information regarding codec, network delay and packet loss. Preferably, R-factor and MOS is calculated based on the information obtained from Cisco CDRs during the call session.

  • Publication number: 20070036297
Abstract: A communication device (10) can include a transceiver (12), a transducer or microphone (14) coupled to the transceiver for receiving voice input from a user, and a processor (16) coupled to the transceiver. The processor can be programmed to receive (32) a predetermined type of phone call or an indication of a caller indication from a calling party and warp (38) a voice input from the user of the communication device based on the caller indication. How the predetermined type of phone call is determined can be done in a number of ways including using an optional caller identification module (18). The caller ID module can provide information on whether the caller is recognized or whether the caller ID information is unavailable.

  • Publication number: 20060045215
Abstract: A method and apparatus to correct a periodic signal, such as a frequency reference, based upon another frequency reference. A lower accuracy frequency signal generator (104) provides an uncorrected frequency reference signal (122) to a frequency corrector (106). Frequency corrector (106) counts cycles of a frequency reference signal (124), as generated by a higher accuracy reference generator (102) for a time period derived from the uncorrected frequency signal. Based upon the cycles counted, pulses are added or removed from the uncorrected frequency signal (122) to produce a corrected frequency signal (126). A ratio of pulses to be removed from the uncorrected frequency signal (122) is determined from the number of cycles counted and a counter arrangement is provided to automatically remove the required ratio of pulses from the uncorrected frequency signal (122).

  • Patent number: 5695820
Abstract: Marangoni flow induced print defects are alleviated by underprinting and/or overprinting by a primary ink-jet ink with at least one treating solution that is capable of inducing the precipitation of the colorant in the primary ink-jet ink upon sustained contact. Since the time scale of precipitation is fast compared with the development of print defects due to Marangoni flow, the deleterious effects of Marangoni flow are forestalled. The method of the invention offers an effective and easily-implemented solution to the problem of Marangoni flow induced print defects that supplants the use of specially-treated paper and its associated high cost and inconvenience.
