  • Patent number: 8122120
Abstract: An embodiment of the invention is a technique to manage failover and failback. A failover of a first path is detected. The first path corresponds to a first device in a plurality of physical devices having M device types. A connection status of the first device is determined if the failover is detected. The connection status is one of a connected status and a disconnected status. The disconnected status corresponds to the failover. The first path is adjusted according to the connection status.

  • Patent number: 7496450
Abstract: The invention relates to an image-reconstruction technique which is used to view multiphase flows using electrical capacitance tomography (ECT), which is based on non-linear heuristic global optimization methods involving simulated annealing and genetic algorithms. The inventive method consists in obtaining electrical capacitance data which are measured between electrodes positioned on the outer surface of pipeline, well or tank (electrically-insulating) containing fluids. The aforementioned data are dependent on the distribution of the fluids inside the pipeline, well or tank. Moreover, the data are processed in order to reconstruct an image of the spatial distribution of the relative electrical permittivity (also known as the dielectric constant) inside the tube, well or tank, which reflects the distribution of the different phases present in the flow.

  • Patent number: 7406617
Abstract: An embodiment of the invention is a technique for monitoring via a universal multipath driver (UMD) a first path to one of a plurality of virtual device objects. The virtual device objects are created by the UMD and correspond to a plurality of functional device objects. The functional device objects are created by a plurality of lower level drivers and correspond to a plurality of real physical devices having M device types including an external boot device. The UMD is a functional driver of each of the functional device objects. The lower level drivers control the real physical devices. The UMD detects a failure of the first path to a first virtual device object corresponding to a first real physical device and performs one of failover and failback for the first real physical device.

  • Patent number: 7222348
Abstract: An embodiment of the invention is a technique to manage multipaths for input/output (I/O) devices. An I/O request packet (IRP) from a higher level driver is received. A plurality of paths to a plurality of device objects is managed in response to the IRP using a plurality of lower level drivers. The device objects correspond to physical devices having M device types. The lower level drivers control the physical devices.

  • Patent number: 5404762
Abstract: A quick-change filter cartridge. In sampling systems for measurement of airborne materials, a filter element is introduced into the sampled airstream such that the aerosol constituents are removed and deposited on the filter. Fragile sampling media often require support in order to prevent rupture during sampling, and careful mounting and sealing to prevent misalignment, tearing, or creasing which would allow the sampled air to bypass the filter. Additionally, handling of filter elements may introduce cross-contamination or exposure of operators to toxic materials. Moreover, it is desirable to enable the preloading of filter media into quick-change cartridges in clean laboratory environments, thereby simplifying and expediting the filter-changing process in the field. The quick-change filter cartridge of the present invention permits the application of a variety of filter media in many types of instruments and may also be used in automated systems.
