  • Patent number: 6019851
Abstract: Described is a process for producing one or more tastands including food and beverage additives from Saccharum officinarum leaves (sugarcane leaves) by means of carrying out one or more physical separation unit operations on a plurality of such leaves, macerates thereof or mixtures of leaves and macerates thereof whereby one or more natural food additives is separated and isolated from the remainder of the plurality of leaves, macerates thereof or mixtures of leaves and macerates thereof. Such unit operations include pressurization using hydraulic press means, steam distillation, fractional distillation, supercritical carbon dioxide extraction, volatile solvent extraction and/or charcoal column separation means. Also described is apparatus for carrying out such processes as well as the products produced using such processes and organoleptic uses of such products. Also described are compositions comprising (a) such tastands in admixture with (b) an eatable having a bitter and/or metallic taste.

  • Patent number: 5360543
Abstract: The invention relates to polyurethane compositions that can be formulated as a two component systems of a first component of a polyol and an amine of formula (I): ##STR1## and a second component of isocyanate. This invention further relates to methods of formulating those polyurethanes, and to use of those polyurethanes in separatory devices.

  • Patent number: 4886624
Abstract: A process is provided for preparing colloidal dispersions of alcohol-dispersible association complexes of ceric dioxide and a hydroxyphenyl carboxylic acid having from about seven to about twenty carbon atoms in a molar ratio CeO.sub.2 /acid of at least about 6:1 which comprises:(1) mixing(a) ceric dioxide comprising ammonium nitrate or ammonium and nitrate ions in an amount within the range from about 3 to about 14% by weight of the ceric dioxide and a member selected from the group consisting of water, methanol, acetic acid and mixtures thereof in an amount usually from about 10 to about 60 g per mole of CeO.sub.2, sufficient to effect reaction with(b) a hydroxyphenyl carboxylic acid having from about seven to about twenty carbon atoms(c) an aliphatic alcohol, such as methanol, isopropanol, 2-ethoxy ethanol, etc.at a temperature within the range from room temperature to about 100.degree. C., thereby effecting dispersion of the ceric dioxide in the aliphatic alcohol.

  • Patent number: 4384627
Abstract: A retractable well drilling bit comprises a hollow body which forms the lowermost end of the drilling string; a pair of colinear cylindrical hollow members slidable within the bore of said hollow body; a pair of knives; a vertical rod attached to the lower one of said cylindrical members and slidable within the upper one of said cylindrical members between a knife-retracted and a knife-extended position, said knives being pivotally engaged to the lower end of said rod; and a pair of crossed links pivotally attached to said upper body at the upper ends thereof and to each knife at the lower ends thereof respectively, such that by spacing said upper member from said lower member, said links will pull said knives rotating same in a knife-retracting direction, whereas when said members are approached to each other, said knives will be pushed by said links in a knife-extending position.
