  • Publication number: 20130190041
Abstract: A smartphone selectively supports a telephone call in a handset mode or a speakerphone mode by enabling or disabling microphones and speakers integrated in the smartphone. In the speakerphone mode, plural microphones determine a direction of a participant of a speakerphone telephone call so that audio of the speakerphone telephone call from plural speakers of the smartphone is beam steered towards the participant.

  • Publication number: 20130182061
Abstract: A system for providing video conference touch blur. More specifically, in certain embodiments, a video conference touch blur operation is performed by actuating (e.g., via touch or via a mouse operation) a video conference screen image to blur areas that are not to be transmitted in high definition.

  • Publication number: 20130067524
Abstract: A video transmission method includes receiving a selected area from an input device. The selected area includes a first portion of a video image received from a video device. The video image includes a second portion, at least some of which is not included in the selected area. The first portion of the video image is transmitted at a first resolution over a network for display. The second portion of the video image is transmitted at a second resolution over the network for display. The second resolution is lower than the first resolution, which allows the system and method to utilize available transmission bandwidth to transmit the video image with the first portion, which may be a portion of interest in the video image, at a higher quality than the second portion, which may be a portion in the video image of less interest than the first portion.

  • Publication number: 20120274724
Abstract: Videoconferencing images captured by a video camera in suboptimal lighting conditions are enhanced by analyzing light associated with a portion of the video camera field of view and applying that analysis for white balance of the entire field of view. For example, the face or silhouette of a videoconference participant is detected within the camera field of view so that light within a perimeter of the face or silhouette is analyzed to determine a white balance correction for application to the entire field of view. To reduce the impact of the white balance correction factor based upon the area within a silhouette participant, the image outside the perimeter may be subdued, such as with blurring or dimming.

  • Publication number: 20120098921
Abstract: Stereo audio cues are provided at an information handling system to associate audio with its source based upon the characteristics of the image of the source as presented at a display of the information handling system. For example, in one embodiment, a location on a display of a window having a videoconferencing participant is used to create a stereo audio location that correlates audio associated with the participant to the window location. In another embodiment, the size on a display of a window having a videoconferencing participant is used to determine the volume of audio that is associated with the participant.

  • Publication number: 20110289350
Abstract: A backup and restoration process which first attempts to recover information blocks from locally connected information handling systems executing a backup/restore service before looking to the slower access cloud store to recover data blocks.

  • Publication number: 20110283276
Abstract: Extended network plug and play functionality is provided for a first network device with a proxy located at a second network device. The proxy advertises a profile for the first network device and responds to a query of the profile by a third network device. The proxy provides an install package for the first network device to the third network device that the third network device applies to interact with the first network device through the network. In one embodiment, the proxy automatically detects network devices that are not plug and play compliant and retrieves the profile for the non-compliant network device using an identifier retrieved from the non-compliant device, such as a MAC address.

  • Publication number: 20110063994
Abstract: A near field communication device, such as an RFID wand, transmits network configuration information to non-volatile memory of a networking device while the networking device is powered down, and even packaged at a retail store. The networking device powers up, reads the network configuration information, and applies the network configuration to automatically interface the networking device with a wireless network.

  • Publication number: 20080175224
Abstract: VoIP devices, such as VoIP telephones or analog telephone adapters, are configured through remote interaction with a configuration server. Configuration information for a VoIP device generated by input to an order engine is stored at a TFTP configuration server by association with a MAC address of the VoIP device. For example, the MAC address is scanned with an optical scanner from a tag on the VoIP device and used as the name for storing the associated configuration information. At power up, the VoIP device connects to the TFTP server, retrieves the configuration information by reference to the MAC address name and applies the configuration information to prepare for interaction with a VoIP service.

  • Publication number: 20070263076
Abstract: A system and method for a virtual omni-directional camera array, comprising a video control system (VCS) coupled to two or more co-located portable or stationary information processing systems, each enabled with a video camera and microphone, to provide a composite video view to remote videoconference participants. Audio streams are captured and selectively mixed to produce a virtual array microphone as a clue to selectively switch or combine the video streams from individual cameras. The VCS selects and controls predetermined subsets of video and audio streams from the co-located video camera and microphone-enabled computers to create a composite video view, which is then conveyed to one or more similarly-enabled remote computers over a broadband network (e.g., the Internet). Manual overrides allow participants or a videoconference operator to select predetermined video streams as the primary video view of the videoconference.

  • Publication number: 20060236108
Abstract: A method and system for automatic termination of unauthorized malevolent processes operating on an information handling system. A list of authenticated and essential process list is stored on the information handling system. Unauthorized processes not contained on the list can be automatically terminated by the user by invoking the present invention with a single click of a mouse or pointer device on an icon residing on the display screen of the information handling system. The offending processes are immediately terminated without generating a user prompt, which would ordinarily provide sufficient time for the malware to spawn additional offending processes. The present invention also provides significant means to recover control of a malware-infected information handling system in order to use repair tools and utilities. The present invention can be deployed at the time of manufacture of an information handling system or independently installed by a user.

  • Publication number: 20050076115
Abstract: In an information handling system, an application operating on an elements of a the information handling system having one or more RAID systems is used to monitor the number of client devices and other operational aspects of the system. The application is constructed and arranged to determine and implement the best cache policy for the RAID systems in order to maximize the desired operational characteristics of the information handling system. The application can operate on a single server or RAID system device, or the application can operate on a separate device to control the cache policies of one or more servers.

  • Patent number: 5755238
Abstract: A method and apparatus is given for a low residence time redrying of strip tobacco. The apparatus thoroughly and evenly dries and cools the tobacco consistently through the entire tobacco bed as it passes through the dryer and cooler. The apparatus utilizes a plurality of individually controlled fluidized bed heating zones for drying the tobacco. An additional fluidized bed cooling zone is provided to cool the tobacco prior to reordering. A continuous conveyor extends through the heating zones and cooling zones. A steam tunnel is utilized to raise the moisture content of the dried tobacco to preselected moisture levels. A vibrating conveyor moves the tobacco through the steam tunnel.

  • Patent number: 5720306
Abstract: A high humidity drying apparatus for cut tobacco is shown. The apparatus has a furnace which heats circulated air within the apparatus. The air is forced through a first arcuate elbow which has a tobacco air inlet located thereon for inserting the cut tobacco into the airstream. The tobacco is then redirected into a vertically extending drying chamber. The air entrained tobacco is then forced through a second arcuate elbow which places the tobacco into a tangential separator for removing the tobacco from the heated air. The separator has dual air exhausts, each leading to a high efficiency cyclone for further removal of the tobacco dust form the circulated air. All of the air is then passed back to the furnace for heating and then recirculated through the drying apparatus.
