Abstract: An apparatus and methods for utilizing a stand-alone Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone with traditional plain old telephone service (POTS) telephone support is disclosed. A stand-alone VoIP telephone with an analog telephone adaptor supporting a plurality of external analog telephone sets and a digital Internet protocol (IP) interface to support VoIP voice data communication over a data channel is presented. The VoIP telephone is used to establish VoIP service line data connections between a VoIP telephone and a data switch to an IP network. The VoIP telephone receives an analog telephone signal from an external analog telephone and establishes a voice connection between the external analog telephone and the VoIP telephone.

The method includes storing the at least one performance parameter for the customer premises equipment in a line table. The method includes determining a difference between each performance parameter and a corresponding performance standard for each performance parameter entry in the line table. The method includes adjusting a customer profile for the customer premises equipment when at least one difference indicates a violation. The method also includes removing from the line table each performance parameter entry associated with the at least one difference that indicates the violation.

Abstract: A method for sending text messages from an IPTV receiver is disclosed and includes detecting that a text button is pressed at an IPTV remote control device associated with the IPTV receiver and displaying a text window at a display device coupled to the IPTV receiver. Text messages can be sent and received via the text window.

One example method receives information associated with at least one communication service via a multi-fidelity audio gateway and selects at least one communication path for use by the gateway device based on the communication service.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for qualifying a telephone transmission line for XDSL communication services is disclosed. The system includes a modem, located at the customer premises to be connected. The modem analyzes actual signals to determine the electrical characteristics of the communication channel associated with the customer premises. The modem includes a transmitter, receiver and controller to generate test signals and receive responses. The modem then analyzes the data to generate an output value indicative of the electrical characteristics of the communication channel being tested. This output value is then displayed to a user or transmitted over the communication channel to a network. The system thereby eliminates the necessity of dispatching a technician to test the telephone line, and provides more accurate test results than those achievable at the network-side of the connection alone.

The system (10) includes a customer site (16) in communication with a remote terminal (20). The customer site (16) has a customer profile. The remote terminal (20) includes a main controller (32) that has a customer profile monitor (50) that monitors at least one customer performance parameter. A comparator (52) compares the customer performance parameters to at least one associated customer performance standard and generates a customer difference signal. A customer profile adjuster (54) modifies the customer profile remotely in response to the customer difference signal. A method of performing the same is also provided.
