Patent number: 7423593Abstract: High-directivity microstrip antennas comprising a driven patch and at least one parasitic element placed on the same plane, operate at a frequency larger than the fundamental mode of the driven patch in order to obtain a resonant frequency with a high-directivity broadside radiation pattern. The driven patch, the parasitic elements and the gaps between them may be shaped as multilevel and/or Space Filling geometries. The gap defined between the driven and parasitic patches according to the invention is used to control the resonant frequency where the high-directivity behaviour is obtained. The invention provides that with one single element is possible to obtain the same directivity than an array of microstrip antennas operating at the fundamental mode.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 2005Date of Patent: September 9, 2008Inventors: Carles Puente Baliarda, Jaume Anguera Pros, Carmen Borja Borau

Patent number: 7417588Abstract: Multiband monopole antennas are disclosed. The antennas disclosed can include a substrate for mounting conductors, one or more conductors for receiving networking signals mainly in a first frequency band, and one or more conductors for receiving networking signals mainly in a second frequency band. The conductors can have a polygonal shape or the conductors can have a linear, space-filling, or grid dimension shape. The conductors can be connected at a feed point. One or more antenna can be incorporated into a single printed circuit board. When multiple antennas are used with the same printed circuit board, the conducting material of the printed circuit board located between the antenna attachment points can be interrupted to improve the isolation of each antenna.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 2005Date of Patent: August 26, 2008Assignee: Fractus, S.A.Inventors: Jordi Soler Castany, Carles Puente Baliarda, Carmen Borja Borau

Patent number: 7397431Abstract: Antennae in which the corresponding radiative element contains at least one multilevel structure formed by a set of similar geometric elements (polygons or polyhedrons) electromagnetically coupled and grouped such that in the structure of the antenna can be identified each of the basic component elements. The design is such that it provides two important advantages: the antenna may operate simultaneously in several frequencies, and/or its size can be substantially reduced. Thus, a multiband radioelectric behavior is achieved, that is, a similar behavior for different frequency bands.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 2005Date of Patent: July 8, 2008Assignee: Fractus, S.A.Inventors: Carles Puente Baliarda, Carmen Borja Borau, Jaume Anguera Pros, Jordi Soler Castany

Patent number: 7310065Abstract: An undersampled microstrip array using multilevel and space-filling shaped patch elements based on a fractal geometry achieves within the same electrical area, the same directivity than can be obtained using conventional elements as square or circular-shaped patches. However, the number of elements for the fractal-based array is less, reducing the complexity of the feeding network and overall array. Mutual coupling can be reduced avoiding radiation pattern distortions. Higher gain than that obtained using classical patch elements within the same electrical can be achieved due to the less complexity in the feeding network.Type: GrantFiled: January 12, 2005Date of Patent: December 18, 2007Assignee: Fractus, S.A.Inventors: Jaume Anguera Pros, Carles Puente Baliarda, Maria-Carmen Borja Borau

Patent number: 6937206Abstract: The present invention refers generally to a new family of antenna arrays that are able to operate simultaneously at two different frequency bands, while featuring dual-polarization at both bands. The design is suitable for applications where the two bands are centered at two frequencies f1 and f2 such that the ratio between the larger frequency (f2) to the smaller frequency (f1) is f2/f1<1.5. The dual-band dual-polarization feature is achieved mainly by means of the physical position of the antenna elements within the array. Also, some particular antenna elements are newly disclosed to enhance the antenna performance.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 2003Date of Patent: August 30, 2005Assignee: Fractus, S.A.Inventors: Carles Puente Baliarda, Jaime Anguera Pros, Carmen Borja Borau
