Abstract: A process for preparing a zinc dialkyldithiophosphate which comprises reacting phosphorus pentasulfide with an aliphatic monohydric alcohol in the presence of a hydrocarbyl polyol followed by a reaction with a basic zinc salt to produce a stabilized zinc dialkyldithiophosphate is provided.

Abstract: A lubricating oil composition having improved dispersancy and viton seal compatibility. The dispersant being prepared by coupling partially glycolated succinimides with an organic diacid.

Abstract: A copolymer comprising the olefin polymerization product of:A. a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 saturated or unsaturated, substituted or unsubstituted, aliphatic or aromatic ester of an unsaturated aliphatic mono-, di- or polycarboxylic acid of chain length C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 in the amount of between 5 and 30 weight percent;B. a C.sub.8 -C.sub.20 saturated or unsaturated, substituted or unsubstituted, aliphatic or aromatic ester of an unsaturated mono-, di- or polyaliphatic carboxylic acid of chain length C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 in the amount of 5 to 81 percent by weight; andC. an ethylenically unsaturated compound containing a basic nitrogen in a side chain.

Abstract: A pour depressant polyalkylacrylate comprising an interpolymer of (A) C.sub.1 -C.sub.15 alkylacrylate and (B) C.sub.16 -C.sub.22 alkylacrylate, said interpolymer having an average molecular weight of between about 1000 and 25,000, an A:B weight ratio of between about 90:10 and 50:50, an average alkyl side chain length between about 11 and 16 carbons, and prepared under neat conditions; a lubricating oil composition thereof comprising a major amount of lubricating oil and between about 0.005 and 10 wt.% of the interpolymeric pour depressant and between about 0.5 and 30 wt.% of a viscosity index improving ethylene-propylene copolymer of a molecular weight between about 10,000 and 150,000, a propylene content of 20 to 70 mole% and polydispersity index of less than 5; and a method of improving component compatibility, pour depression, and viscosity index comprising admixing a major amount of hydrocarbon lubricating oil with a minor amount of the interpolymeric polyalkylacrylate and ethylene-propylene copolymer.

Abstract: Disclosed are lubricating oil additives consisting of the reaction product of a di(lower)alkylamino-(lower)akylamine and a hydro-peroxidized ethylene/propylene copolymer having utility as dispersants and viscosity index improvers.

Abstract: The color and viscosity stability of copolymeric .alpha.-olefin viscosity index improvers and of oils containing same are improved by the incorporation therein of minor amounts of N,N'-bis(2-hydroxy-5-alkylbenzyl).alpha.-.OMEGA.-diaminoethane wherein the alkyl group is a C.sub.4 to C.sub.30 alkyl group and the basic metal salts thereof.

Abstract: A fully formulated crankcase lubricating oil composition containing between about 0.1 and 10 wt. % of a tetrapolymer of 4-vinylpyridine (4-VP), a first alkyl methacrylate of the formula: ##STR1## a second alkyl methacrylate of the formula: ##STR2## and a third alkyl methacrylate of the formula: ##STR3## where R is alkyl of from 1 to 6 carbons, R.sup.1 is alkyl of from 10 to 15 carbons and R.sup.2 is alkyl of from 16 to 20 carbons, of a molecular weight between about 25,000 and 2,500,000 having a component ratio of 4-VP:C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkyl methacrylate:C.sub.10 -C.sub.15 alkyl methacrylate:C.sub.16 -C.sub.20 alkyl methacrylate of between about 2:10:78:10 and 10:30:30:30 and between about 0.1 and 5 wt. % of a calcium containing rust inhibitor, said composition having a sulfated metal ash content of between about 0.05 and 1 wt. %.

Abstract: A complex product of (1) an interpolymer of dialkylaminoalkyl methacrylate, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl methacrylate, C.sub.10 -C.sub.14 alkyl methacrylate and C.sub.16 -C.sub.20 alkyl methacrylate monomers and (2) a liquid alkylbenzene of a molecular weight between about 100 and 5000, prepared by polymerizing the monomers comprising said interpolymer in the presence of said liquid alkylbenzene. A mineral oil composition of improved viscosity, pour depressing and detergent-dispersant properties and concentrates thereof comprising between about 10 and 95 wt. % of a mineral oil of lubricating viscosity and between about 0.1 and 90 wt. % of said complex product.
