  • Patent number: 7723068
Abstract: A gene cluster is disclosed having open reading frames which encode polypeptides sufficient to direct the synthesis of a safracin molecule. In addition, the present disclosure is directed to a nucleic acid sequence, suitably an isolated nucleic acid sequence, which includes or comprises at least SEQ ID NO:1, variants or portions thereof, or at least one of the sacA, sacB, sacC, sacC, sacD, sacE, sacF, sacG, sacH, sacH, saI, sacJ, orf1, orf2, orf3 or orf4 genes, including variants or portions.

  • Publication number: 20090130675
Abstract: The invention relates to genes involved in the biosynthesis of thiocoraline and to the heterologous production of same. According to the invention, the cluster of genes responsible for the biosynthesis of thiocoraline was identified and cloned. Said cluster of genes can be used in the heterologous production of thiocoraline which has an antitumor and antibacterial activity.

  • Publication number: 20050124032
Abstract: The present invention describes methods for (i) obtaining astaxanthin-overproducing strains of X. dendrorhous and (ii) the use of the aforementioned strains in improved conditions of fermentation. The methods used for selecting the strains are based on: (i) resistance to inhibitors of steroid synthesis, to inhibitors of respiration and to compounds that induce the formation of free radicals, (ii) color intensity of the colony and production of carotenoids on solid medium, (iii) production of astaxanthin in darkness, (iv) production of astaxanthin in conditions with a raised temperature and (v) production of astaxanthin with carbon sources other than glucose. These methods permit the efficient selection of mutants of X. dendrorhous with astaxanthin yields higher than the parent strain and little accumulation of other carotenoids. Cultivation of X. dendrorhous in liquid medium makes it possible to obtain a biomass that can be used directly in human and animal nutrition.

  • Patent number: 6187574
Abstract: Process for producing the enzyme D-amino acid oxydase of Rhodotorula gracilis in host cells. The process for the expression of the enzyme comprises isolating the complementary DNA corresponding to the messager RNA of the gene which codes for the D-amino acid oxydase of any strain of Rhodotorula gracillis producing said enzyme; fusing the fragment of DNA which codes for D-amino acid oxydase of Rhodotorula gracillis with a DNA sequence which contains a site of union to the ribosome and a high efficiency promoter sequence for the express of genes in host cells; inserting the DNA fragment into a plasmid appropriate for the host cell; cultivating the host cells transformed with said plasmid; and collecting the enzyme.
