  • Patent number: 5266548
Abstract: Porous carrier materials comprising at least 90% by weight of at least 95% pure alpha alumina are very effective as supports for catalysts treating engine exhausts and are significantly better able to withstand extreme conditions than conventional supports.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 31, 1992
Date of Patent: November 30, 1993
Assignee: Norton Chemical Process Products Corp.
Inventors: Pramod B. Koradia, Carmine M. Doddato, Daniel C. Sherman, William H. Gerdes
  • Patent number: 5178785
Abstract: A new heat sink composition having relatively high volumetric heat capacity and relatively high density have been prepared. The compositions comprise a set of formulas including: a) 50-95% oxide of iron and 50-5% of a mixture of clay, an organic binder or an inorganic binder, where said mixture can contain any portion of clay, organic binder or inorganic binder in any proportions provided the mixture adheres to the 50-5% compositional range; b) 15-95% oxide of iron and 85-5% of clay; c) 15-85% oxide of iron, 10-2% of a transition metal oxide other than iron and 75-13% inorganic binder; and d) 50-80% oxide of iron, 15-5% of talc and 35-15% clay. The compositions show good dried and fired properties and can even be loaded and fired in-situ because they possess good dried crush strength.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: January 12, 1993
    Assignee: Norton Company
Inventors: Michael J. Dolan, Carmine M. Doddato, Kenneth R. Butcher
  • Patent number: 5100859
Abstract: The invention relates to catalyst carries for use in conjunction with silver, alkali metal promoters, rhenium promoters and optionally rhenium co-promoters selected from sulfur, molybdenum, tungsten, chromium and mixtures thereof. The carriers consisting of at least 85 and preferably 95 percent by weight of alpha alumina, from about 0.01 to about 6 percent by weight of an alkaline earth metal silicate and from about zero to about 10 percent by weight (measured as the dioxide of added zirconium in the form of an oxide.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 22, 1991
Date of Patent: March 31, 1992
    Assignee: Norton Company
Inventors: William H. Gerdes, Carmine M. Doddato, Patrick F. Malone
  • Patent number: 4954138
Abstract: A product and method for conditioning fabrics, especially denim, is disclosed. The product is an artificial stone made up of an inorganic filler, inorganic abrasive particles and an inorganic bond for the filler and abrasive. The method is the use of the stone to condition fabrics.
