  • Patent number: 9080074
Abstract: Composition and process for low temperature curing of polyuretdione-polyol compositions in which the polyuretdione is prepared from a polyisocyanate with isocyanate groups and a polyol containing primary hydroxyl groups. The catalyst for the composition and process is an amine catalyst containing the group —N?C—N—, being aprotic, having a pKa greater than 20 and upon addition to the liquid coating composition causing a phase-change of the coating composition from liquid to solid at 25° C. and 1 atm. within one week.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 19, 2010
Date of Patent: July 14, 2015
Assignees: Bayer MaterialScience LLC, Bayer MaterialScience AG, PPG, Inc.
Inventors: Myron W. Shaffer, Abdullah Ekin, Carol L. Kinney, Dorota Greszta-Franz, Jonathan T. Martz, Jun Deng, Deborah E. Hayes, Stephen J. Thomas

  • Patent number: 7772353
Abstract: This invention relates to polyurethane elastomers and to a process for their production. These elastomers comprise the reaction product of a (cyclo)aliphatic isocyanate component having an NCO group content of about 20 to about 45%, with an isocyanate-reactive component comprising one or more polyether polyols which is free of amine groups, and a low molecular weight organic compound containing two hydroxyl groups and which is free of amine groups, in the presence of one or more catalysts.

  • Patent number: 7759447
Abstract: The present invention is directed to polyisocyanate addition compounds which i) are substantially free from isocyanate groups and are prepared from one or more a) polyisocyanate adducts and/or b) NCO prepolymers, ii) contain urethane groups, iii) contain fluorine in an amount of 0.01 to 50% by weight, and iv) contain ethylenically unsaturated groups in an amount of 2 to 40% by weight, wherein the preceding percentages are based on the solids content of the polyisocyanate addition compounds. The fluorine is incorporated by reacting an isocyanate group with a compound containing two or more carbon atoms, one or more hydroxyl groups and one or more fluorine atoms to form urethane and optionally allophanate groups. More than 50 mole % of the groups that incorporate fluorine into the addition compounds are urethane groups. The polyisocyanate addition compounds are useful in coating compositions that are curable by free radical polymerization.

  • Publication number: 20090131581
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an aqueous coating composition comprising the reaction product of a hydrophobic, fluorine-functional polyisocyanate and an aqueous hydroxy-functional polyisocyanate. The present invention is also directed to a process for the production of this aqueous coating composition.

  • Patent number: 6150457
Abstract: The present invention relates to compounds containing modified hydrazide groups and corresponding to formula I ##STR1## wherein R represents the residue obtained by removing the isocyanate groups from a monomeric polyisocyanate, a polyisocyanate adduct or an NCO prepolymer,X represents OR' or NHR' andR' represents a group which is inert to isocyanate groups under the conditions used to form the compound of formula I andn has a value of 2 to 6.The present invention also relates to one-component, thermoset coating compositions containing the compounds of formula I and a cross-linking component that is reactive with these compounds. Finally, the present invention relates coatings, sealants and adhesives prepared from these thermoset compositions.
