  • Patent number: 10090116
Abstract: A biological supercapacitor comprising at least one pair of electrodes that comprise immobilized biological materials that includes enzymes. The enzymes are immobilized to the electrodes and may be isolated enzymes, enzyme cascades comprising multiple enzymes, whole cells, organelles from cells, or parts of organelles from cells. An aspect of the disclosed biological supercapacitor is that a byproduct is water. The disclosed biological supercapacitor combines the energy density of a battery with the power density of a supercapacitor in order to reduce the size and weight of the energy storage devices. Methods of fabrication and of use of the biological supercapacitor are also disclosed.
    Type: Grant
