  • Patent number: 9154283
Abstract: Automatically adjust the size of a Physical Uplink Control Channel, PUCCH, of an uplink communication subframe. In a particular embodiment, the size of a semi-static region of the PUCCH is adjusted. The adjustment is based on a utilization factor of the PUCCH over a time period. The adjustment can also be based on the connection factor (connections between the wireless terminals and the cell) and/or based on the utilization factor of a PUSCH (Physical Uplink Shared Channel). The result is an efficient resource utilization on the PUCCH, and a properly dimensioned PUCCH region.

  • Publication number: 20150245250
Abstract: A device and method for throttling carrier aggregation (CA) in a device connected to a CA enabled network. The method includes determining that a carrier aggregation state of the device is enabled by a network component of a CA enabled network to which the device is connected, determining at least one condition indicating that the carrier aggregation functionality is unnecessary, generating a throttling indication to indicate to the network that a secondary serving cell (SCell) providing a secondary component carrier (SCC) in the carrier aggregation functionality is to be disabled and transmitting the throttling indication to the network component.

  • Publication number: 20150029980
Abstract: A User Equipment (UE) (20) has multiple transceivers, each having a corresponding receiver configured to communicate on respective carriers. The UE (20) monitors a radio access network (RAN) (16) on a serving cell using a first of the receivers, and indicates to the base station (80) that at least one of its receivers will temporary tune-out from the RAN (16). The base station (80) receives the indication from the UE (20), and temporarily suspends communications with the UE (20).

  • Publication number: 20150018036
Abstract: A device and method for controlling communications between a User Equipment (UE) (20) and a base station (BS) (90) in a radio access network (RAN) (16) is provided. The UE (20) indicates to the BS (90) in the RAN (16) that a transceiver at the UE (20) will temporarily suspend communications with the RAN (16). The BS (90) acknowledges the indication from the UE (20) and temporarily suspends communications with the UE (20). Responsive to the acknowledgement from the BS (90), the UE (20) temporarily suspends communications between the transceiver and the RAN (16). The UE (20) then resumes communications between the transceiver and the BS (90) in the RAN (16).

  • Patent number: 8897240
Abstract: Methods for scheduling downlink (DL) data on a downlink subframe from a base station directed to at least one wireless terminal in a wireless network are provided. The methods include selecting a control channel element (CCE) region for a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) carried in a control region of the downlink subframe; determining whether a DL assignment corresponding to the DL data can be allocated on the selected CCE region based on a load imposed on a corresponding physical resource block (PRB) of a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) of a future uplink subframe that will carry an ACK/NACK response corresponding to the DL assignment; and allocating the DL assignment on the selected CCE region when it is determined that the DL assignment can be allocated.

  • Patent number: 8666393
Abstract: A basic idea is to introduce an additional paging schedule for user equipment in connected mode that differs from the paging schedule used for user equipment in idle mode. Consequently, the inventive mechanism relies on distributing (S1) a notification of an upcoming change of system information in paging messages according to a first paging schedule for user equipment in idle mode, and distributing (S2) a notification of an upcoming change of system information in paging messages according to a second paging schedule for user equipment in connected mode. The second paging schedule for user equipment in connected mode is different from the first paging schedule for user equipment in idle mode. In this way, a satisfactory load distribution is achieved, at the same time as UEs in both connected and idle mode are able to receive important system information notifications.

  • Patent number: 8315644
Abstract: The invention discloses a method (200, 300, 400) for traffic control in a cellular telephony system (100) comprising a number of cells, each cell comprising at least one Radio Base Station, RBS, (170). The system (100) comprises at least one Radio Network Controller, RNC, (110 130 150), for the control of a number of Radio Base stations. The traffic between an RBS and an RNC comprises a number of flows. The invention is intended for the control of flows from the Radio Base Stations to their RNC. The method uses one control function for each flow from each of said Radio Base Stations, and also comprises a congestion detection function (220) which detects the presence or absence of congestion in the traffic from an RBS to an RNC, and which, upon detection of congestion reduces the bit rate of the congested traffic, and in the absence of congestion, increases the bit rate of the previously congested traffic.

  • Publication number: 20110188422
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for requesting scheduling of resources to be used for uplink communication of data in a communications system. If the repeated transmission by a user equipment of scheduling requests on an uplink control channel is determined to be unsuccessful, a random access transmission on a random access channel is initiated as a fallback procedure.

  • Patent number: 7054353
Abstract: The present invention is related to a Rake receiver (R1) for receiving a radio signal and to a searcher (S8a, S8b) for estimating the delay profile of one or more radio links. The searcher includes means for estimating delay profiles in separate windows. The searcher is arranged for being switched into a single window mode or alternatively into a multiple window mode. In single window mode the delay profiles of separate radio links are estimated in the windows, while in multiple window mode two or more windows are allocated adjacent in time for estimating the delay profile of the same radio link. Thereby, the use of the resources of the searcher can be adapted to the radio environments in which the searcher will be used. The Rake receiver comprises fingers that are grouped into two sets. Within a set of fingers the propagation paths are time aligned. The output from the two set of fingers are time aligned and then combined.
