  • Publication number: 20180203921
Abstract: An apparatus and a method increase data exploration and facilitate changing between exploratory and iterative searching. A virtual widget is movable on a display device in response to detected user gestures. Graphic objects are displayed on the display device, representing respective documents in a search document collection. The virtual widget is populated with a first query term, which can be used for an iterative search. Semantic terms that are predicted to be semantically related to it are identified, based on a computed similarity between multidimensional representations of terms in a training document collection. The multidimensional representations are output by a semantic model which takes into account context of the respective terms in the training document collection. A user selects one of the set of semantic terms for generating a semantic query for an exploratory search. Documents in the search document collection that are responsive to the semantic query are identified.

  • Publication number: 20160307113
Abstract: A system and method for selection of a batch of objects are provided. Each object in a pool is assigned to a subset of a set of buckets. The assignment is based on signatures, generated, for example, by LSH hashing object representations of the objects in the pool. The signatures are then segmented into bands which are each assigned to a respective bucket in the set, based on the elements of the band. An entropy value is computed for each of a set of objects remaining in the pool using a current classifier model. A batch of objects for retraining the model is selected. This includes selecting objects from the set of objects based on their computed entropy values and respective assigned buckets.

  • Patent number: 9405456
Abstract: A computer implemented tactile user interface (TUI) and a method of manipulating objects with a virtual magnet are provided. The TUI includes a display comprising a touch-screen. The display is configured for displaying a set of graphic objects, each graphic object representing a respective one of a set of items, such as documents, e.g., text documents or images. A virtual magnet is caused to move on the display, in response to touching on the touch-screen, e.g., by dragging a finger or other implement across. The magnet is associated with a particular function command such that a subset of the graphic objects exhibits a response to the virtual magnet (e.g., is caused to move, relative to the virtual magnet or exhibits another visible response), each graphic object in the subset moving or otherwise responding as a function of an attribute of the underlying item represented by the graphic object.

  • Publication number: 20150370472
Abstract: A processing method includes, associating each of a plurality of hand gestures that are detectable with a three-dimensional sensor with a respective one of a plurality of item processing tasks in memory. A plurality of graphic objects is displayed on a touch-sensitive display device, each graphic object being associated with a respective item. With the three-dimensional sensor, a hand gesture is detected. The respective one of the item processing tasks that is associated with the detected hand gesture is identified and the identified one of the item processing tasks is implemented on the displayed graphic objects, comprising causing at least a subset of the displayed graphic objects to respond on the display device based on attributes of the respective items. Item processing tasks may also be implemented through predefined touch gestures.

  • Patent number: 8860763
Abstract: A method of configuring a widget and a tactile user interface which displays the widget are disclosed which enable menu-setting operations with minimal touch gestures and occupation of screen space. The interface includes a touch sensitive display device and memory which stores instructions for displaying the widget and a set of graphic objects together on the display device. The widget has two or more virtual sides, each of the sides being associated with a respective functionality. The widget is flipped, in response to a recognized touch gesture, from a first of the sides to a second of the sides, whereby the functionality of the widget is changed. The graphic objects are associated, in memory, with respective items having attributes. The graphic objects exhibit a response to the widget functionality of a currently displayed one of the sides of the widget based on the attributes of the respective items.

  • Publication number: 20140237359
Abstract: A system and method are provided for dynamically generating a query using touch gestures. A virtual magnet is movable on a display device of a tactile user interface in response to touch. A user selects one of a set of text documents for review, which is displayed on the display. The system is configured for recognizing a highlighting gesture on the tactile user interface over the displayed document as a selection of a text fragment from the document text. The virtual magnet is populated with a query which is based on the text fragment selected with the highlighting gesture. The populated magnet is able to cause a subset of displayed graphic objects to exhibit a response to the magnet as a function of the query and the text content of the respective documents which the objects represent and/or to cause responsive instances in a text document to be displayed.

  • Patent number: 8699075
Abstract: A system and method for document image acquisition and retrieval find application in litigation for responding to discovery requests. The method includes receiving automatically acquired electronic image logs comprising image data and associated records for documents processed by a plurality of image output devices within an organization. When a request for document production is received, the image logs (and/or information extracted therefrom) are automatically filtered through at least one classifier trained to return documents responsive to the document request, and documents corresponding to the filtered out image logs are output. One of the filters may be configured for filtering out documents that include attorney-client exchanges.

  • Patent number: 8386437
Abstract: A system and method for document management are provided. The method relies on a logging system which automatically generates image logs for input documents for each job (print, copy, fax, scan, etc.) processed by the multifunction printing device(s) of an organization. The image logs are processed to identify keywords which are the basis of a search for similar documents among those which have been previously archived as well as documents in other accessible document repositories, including Web documents. The method identifies matching documents and optionally also revisions and related documents. A procedure is provided for ensuring that for each document processed by a multifunction device or other image output device of the organization, image data is archived (or identified as a public document without archiving). The method avoids duplication by using a digital matching document, where available, enabling the images of the image log for the input document to be discarded.

  • Patent number: 8165974
Abstract: A system and method for reviewing documents are provided. A collection of documents is portioned into sets of documents for review by a plurality of reviewers. For each set, documents in the set are displayed on a display device for review by a reviewer and temporarily organized through grouping and sorting. The reviewer's labels for the displayed documents are received. Based on the reviewer's labels, a class from a plurality of classes is assigned to each of the reviewed documents. A classifier model stored in computer memory is progressively trained, based on features extracted from the reviewed documents in the set and their assigned classes. Prior to review of all documents in the set, a calculated subset of documents for which the classifier model assigns a class different from the one assigned based on the reviewer's label is returned for a second review by a reviewer. Models generated from one or more other document sets can be used to assess the review of a first of the sets.
