  • Publication number: 20020118944
Abstract: An optical fiber storage reel includes an outer surface and an inner surface. A channel on the outer surface receives optical fiber and terminates in an exit port. The fiber is positioned within the channel and first routed to the exit port and then to the inner surface. The channel is S-shaped or teardrop-shaped so that the ends of the fiber transition from the exit port to the inner surface in the same direction. The storage reel may further include a wall between the outer surface and the inner surface that defines a hub. A splice holder may be provided on the outer surface. The storage reel may further include means for securing storage reels together in side-by-side relationship. The storage reel provides convenient, compact storage while maintaining the minimum bend radius of the optical fiber and access so that the stored fiber does not have to be manually routed.

  • Patent number: 6353696
Abstract: A panel for managing the storage of fiber optic cable jumpers is disclosed. The panel fits within a conventional storage rack. The panel has a box-like frame with a cavity on its back side. The panel also has a front storage hub and a rear storage hub. The rear hub extends out of the cavity and is coaxial with the front hub. A port is located in the frame adjacent to the hubs. An excess length of a fiber optic cable jumper may be stored by coiling it on either or both of the hubs, depending upon the need and the length of the jumper. The jumper may be inserted through the port in either direction and joined to a fiber optic cable on each end.

  • Patent number: 6215064
Abstract: A jumper management assembly for managing the routing of fiber optic cable jumpers is disclosed. The assembly fits within a conventional equipment rack. The assembly has a panel with two fiber support trays attached on its back side. The assembly also has ports located in the panel near the support trays. An excess length of a fiber optic cable jumper may be routed from the rear of electronics or other components in the equipment rack using the support trays, portals, and panel.

  • Patent number: 6181862
Abstract: An optical fiber storage unit mounts to each side of a fiber optic storage rack. The storage unit has a pair of longitudinally extending parallel rails. Hubs are mounted along the rails and spaced apart from each other. Some of the hubs protrude rearward from the rails and some protrude forward. The rails are laterally spaced apart from each other. This provides openings for the passage of optical fibers from the front to the back of the rack. The rails and the hub assemblies have curved portions to avoid excessive bending of the fibers.
