  • Patent number: 4142309
Abstract: The relative movement between the draft frame and the bowl member of a scraper bowl-lift apparatus is controlled by one or more bowl-lift motors. The longitudinal centerline of the motor passes through a spreader member of the draft frame. One end of the motor is pivotally connected to a shrouded motor support at a location above the spreader member while the other end of the motor is pivotally connected to a preselected portion of the bowl member. By so orienting the bowl-lift motor relative to the spreader, the entire draft frame apparatus is of improved strength and efficiency.

  • Patent number: 4122903
Abstract: A motor grader circle drive has an internal spur gear secured to the circle, and the internal gear is driven by one or two barrel worm gears, each of which in turn is driven from a hydraulic motor by an input worm and an input spiral gear keyed to the barrel worm gear, each barrel worm gear is journalled on a spindle in a support and is free to move endwise between a pair of radial flanges while being centered by a pair of belleville spring washers so as to compensate for backlash in each barrel worm gear and to permit substantially even distribution of driving force between the barrel worm gears when two are used. This structure operates at very low tooth pressures so as to permit the barrel worm gear to be made of a relatively soft material such as heat treated aluminum. The support, worm gear and input gears are made as a prefabricated sub-assembly, which is easily installed or removed; and using a soft material which wears much faster than the internal gear protects the latter from wear.

  • Patent number: 4084335
Abstract: A scraper has a frame with first and second spaced apart side elements, a bowl, and an ejector system. The ejector system is connected to the bowl and is movable, relative to the bowl, for receiving or removing material into and from the bowl. The ejector system has first and second motors, each connected to opposite sides of the frame at locations outwardly of the first and second side elements. A power means is connected to and positioned between the first and second frame side elements.

  • Patent number: 4084644
Abstract: A motor grader including a main frame mounted on steerable wheels, a drawbar frame mounted on the main frame, a working implement carried by a circle gear rotatably mounted on the drawbar frame and a hydraulic control circuit is described. An improvement in the control of the working implement is disclosed in which continuous downward force is exerted on the circle gear at all times during operation by hydraulic rams. Preferred embodiments of the invention are described wherein the force is exerted by hydraulic means including wear surfaces in contact with the circle gear and wherein the hydraulic control circuit is adapted to provide automatic operation.

  • Patent number: 3989112
Abstract: The motor grader drawbar assembly has a blade mounted on a circle gear and a drive unit operatively connected to the circle gear to selectively rotate it and the blade. A plurality of radially mounted pistons operate against an upright wall of the circle gear to provide a brake and/or locking mechanism. The pistons, and their accompanying cylinders, are mounted in members which also underlie and support the circle gear. Thus, the vertical position of the circle gear is not affected by the braking operation. A hydraulic circuit is provided to alternately operate the drive unit and the braking operation.

  • Patent number: 3977489
Abstract: A framework is provided for a relatively large off-highway truck which has front wheels supported by independent suspension struts positioned on opposite sides of the engine. The framework includes a pair of longitudinally disposed, laterally spaced main side rails and a superstructure which provides an upper, transverse bridgework interconnecting the side rails to add transverse rigidity in a manner which does not obstruct overhead accessibility to the engine. The superstructure also provides radial support for the upper ends of the struts to minimize twisting of the main side rails by moment loads created by the wheels. The superstructure further supports a roll-over protective structure for the operator cab of the truck in a manner which minimizes the transmission of severe impact loads in the event of rollover to the main frame.

  • Patent number: 3967709
Abstract: The invention comprises a transmission control console attachable to a vehicle. The console includes an enclosure with a gear shift regulator extending therefrom, the regulator serving to control the transmission of the vehicle. Generally, the regulator will have forward, reverse, and neutral settings. Also a part of the console is a parking brake actuator adjacent the enclosure, the actuator serving to control a parking brake of the vehicle. Means are provided responsive to movement of the actuator to cause engagement of the parking brake for interlocking the actuator to the regulator only when the regulator is in its neutral setting, whereby shifting out of the neutral setting is prevented when the actuator and the regulator are interlocked, and engagement of the brake is prevented when the regulator is not in the neutral setting.
