  • Patent number: 11780220
Abstract: In some examples, photographic mapping of an object takes place during transport at a fixed position by means of a line camera in a sequence of recording periods. An exposure device is exposed for an exposure time that is dependent on the duration of the on-time of the line camera. Each strip-shaped portion of the object to be photographically mapped is exposed, within a recording period, asynchronously for the duration of a first exposure time to white light and for the duration of a second exposure time either to ultraviolet light or to IR light. Each strip-shaped portion of the print image to be photographically mapped is alternately exposed by the exposure device, within the recording period photographically mapping the portion, to white light and either to UV light or to IR light during the duration of the on-time of the line camera.

  • Patent number: 11446919
Abstract: A device for the alphanumeric labeling of printed products comprises a shaft mounted in a frame, and around which shaft at least one wheel-shaped or ring-shaped labeling tool is rotatably mounted, which tool carries a number of alphanumeric characters, one behind the other, on its outer circumference. A drive motor, in the form of, for example, a stepper motor, is provided and by which the labeling tool can be rotated around the shaft. The drive motor is linked for signals transmission to one of a data processing and a data storage of a control device, in which an assignment specification between the working positions of the alphanumeric characters or the fields carrying the alphanumeric characters, and step numbers of the stepper motor, is provided. The drive motor is or can be controlled by the control device in terms of a number of steps to be traveled, using this provided assignment specification, to move an alphanumeric character to be printed or the relevant field into a working position.

  • Patent number: 9256931
Abstract: A method is used for inspecting at least one copy of a printed product. At least one element, which is spatially constant with respect to a fixed reference point and at least one element which is spatially variant with respect to the same fixed reference point are reliably inspected by reference image data being used for a desired-actual value comparison of the at least one spatially variant element. The reference image data takes account of the variable position of the at least one element; i.e. the spatial variance thereof.

  • Publication number: 20150047519
Abstract: There is described a method for controlling the position of numbering wheels (7) of a numbering device (1), which numbering device (1) is of the type comprising a plurality of independently-driven numbering wheels (7) disposed adjacent to one another for rotation about a common rotation axis, the method comprising actuating the numbering wheels (7) between successive numbering iterations, whereby each numbering wheel (7) which has to be rotated to a new target position is driven into rotation until it reaches its new target position. The method further comprises, at least during actuation of the numbering wheels (7), compensating for external factors acting on the numbering wheels (7), such as friction induced by adjacent rotating numbering wheels, by electronically regulating the position of each numbering wheel (7) which is not rotated or which has reached its new target position. Also described is a device for carrying out this method.

  • Patent number: 7672486
Abstract: The quality of printed matter, which is one of several copies of the same printed matter produced by a printing machine, is evaluated. An amount of copies of the printed matter is selected from the total production of this printed matter. The selected amount of these copies are evaluated with regard to at least one error type which belongs to an amount of different error types or with regard to at least one feature of the error. Within the selected amount of copies, an error of a defined error type or of a defined feature, which is detected on at least one of the copies, is evaluated in relation to at least one error of another type or feature detected on the same copy, or another copy of the selected amount. The printed matter is classified as having good or bad quality based on that evaluation. A common reading, producing image data, is obtained by an image sensor from the selected copies.

  • Patent number: 7635830
Abstract: An optical system is usable for forming an illuminated pattern on the surface of a material which is being displaced with respect to that illuminated pattern. An illuminating device, which includes several light sources that are driven in a pulsed manner by a control unit, emits light that is used to form the illuminated pattern. A detection device detects the light emitted by the illuminating device. The control unit controls one individual light source, or a group of light sources. An operating time of the light source or sources is synchronized with an exposure time of the detection device. The operating time of the light source is shorter than the exposure time of the detection device.

  • Patent number: 7447353
Abstract: A material, with at least one identification characteristic, is subjected to a qualitative evaluation. A color image of this at least one identification characteristic is taken using an electronic image sensor which produces an electrical signal that is evaluated by an evaluation device. Another electrical signal is obtained from at least one reference image and is stored in a data memory. The second electric signal, has a set point value, for the first electric signal, for at least two set point values contained in the reference image. The first signal is compared to at least two set point values in the second image. The color image of the identification characteristic is tested for deviation from the reference. The identification characteristic is checked for association with at least one aspect of the identification characteristic of the material. The tasks are carried out in a continuous working process being carried out by a machine, such as a printing machine, during a continuous printing process.
