  • Patent number: 6460667
Abstract: A support assembly for an oblique introduction of force and an absorption of kinetic energy during an impact, especially for a motor vehicle, includes a supporting structure and a deformation element. The deformation element rests with at least one side against a support element on the support structure and has a honeycomb matrix body with a longitudinal axis and hollow chambers formed by walls. The deformation element is fixed to the support structure in such a way that at least a part of forces generated during in impact are introduced into the walls at an angle relative to the main direction in which the walls extend. A vehicle bumper system and a method of producing a deformation element are also provided.

  • Patent number: 6439358
Abstract: A support assembly includes a deformation element for use in a motor vehicle for absorbing kinetic energy in case of an impact. The deformation element can be deformed to a residual block length. The deformation element is connected to a supporting structure and includes a honeycomb matrix body. The honeycomb matrix body of the deformation element is self-supporting and has at least one radial deformation limiter whose axial stiffness is lower than that of the matrix body. This allows using the deformation element without a supporting jacket, so that the properties of the deformation element can be determined independently of those of a jacket.

  • Patent number: 6293009
Abstract: A method for producing a metallic carrier body includes introducing a sheet into a receptacle. The sheet undergoes at least partial deformation upon introduction into the receptacle. A catalyst carrier body for an exhaust gas system of an internal combustion engine may be produced by the method.

  • Patent number: 6277784
Abstract: A metallic catalyst carrier body for the cleaning or treatment of an exhaust-gas flow, in particular of small engines, includes a multiplicity of strip-shaped foils which are joined together in the form of a honeycomb structure. The foils form a foil assembly structure in which mutually adjacent respective foils are securely interconnected at connecting locations that are spaced apart from one another and offset alternatingly relative to one another. If the foil assembly is stretched, for example by winding the same into a hollow body, the honeycomb structure is formed, defining flow channels with at least one radial directional component in its interior, through the use of cells.

  • Patent number: 6156278
Abstract: A catalytic converter configuration for an exhaust gas system of a motor vehicle having an internal combustion engine, in particular an Otto engine, and first and second feed lines guiding exhaust gases to the catalytic converter, includes a substantially rotationally symmetrical honeycomb body having first and second passage lines at least approximately gas-tightly closed off relative to each other and a plurality of passages in each passage line connecting intake and outlet ends of the honeycomb body. The first and second feed lines are respectively connected to the first and second passage lines at the intake end. The first passage line is disposed substantially coaxially in the interior of the second passage line and the hydraulic diameters of the first and second passage lines are approximately equal.

  • Patent number: 5887427
Abstract: An electrically insulating gas-tight penetration is provided for at least two electrical conductors passing through a metal shell of an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine, in particular a metal shell of an electrically heatable catalytic converter. The shell has a sheath in the region of the penetration and the conductors extend through the sheath. Electromagnetic impulses are avoided by running the conductors coaxially to one another.

  • Patent number: 5768889
Abstract: A device for catalytically converting exhaust gases in an exhaust system, especially an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine, preferably for Otto engines, includes at least two honeycomb bodies which are disposed in an outer jacket tube and through which an exhaust gas can flow in succession. The adjacent honeycomb bodies are joined to one another through the use of support elements protruding into the honeycomb bodies. The first honeycomb body is spaced apart relative to the outer jacket tube and has at least two shells joined to a jacket surface of the first honeycomb body, which are each connected to an electrical power lead. Electrically insulating joining elements each have one end joined to a shell and another end joined to the adjacent second honeycomb body. The outer jacket tube has at least one encompassing bead, which rests on a jacket tube of the second adjacent honeycomb body.
