  • Patent number: 7246294
Abstract: A method for hard-decision forward error correction decoding is described. A method comprises iteratively decoding a set of hard input data that has been transmitted optically, the set of hard input data having a set of information symbols, each of the set of information symbols encoded with a first forward error correction (FEC) encoding scheme and with a second FEC encoding scheme.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 1, 2002
Date of Patent: July 17, 2007
    Assignee: Intel Corporation
    Inventors: Michael Kauschke, Carsten Poppinga
  • Patent number: 7231575
Abstract: An apparatus for iterative hard-decision forward error correction decoding is described. The apparatus comprises a binary receiver to convert an optical signal to an electrical signal, the electrical signal having a set of information symbols and a set of redundancy symbols, the set of redundancy symbols generated by different forward error correction (FEC) encoding schemes, and a plurality of decoders coupled with the binary receiver and coupled together, each of the decoders to decode the set of information symbols with the set of redundancy symbols in accordance with the different FEC encoding schemes.
