Abstract: A vending machine comprises a chassis, a shelf system including a plurality of product rows, a plurality of product gates each coupled to an associated one of the plurality of product rows, a movable stage, a retrieval platform, and a vending machine controller coupled to at least one memory. The vending machine controller is configured to determine a product code and a storage location of a selected product for vending, retrieve, from the at least one memory, timing parameters associated with at least one of the product code or the storage location of the selected product, and control one or more timings of one of the plurality of product gates associated with the determined storage location of the selected product, based on the retrieved timing parameters, to release the selected product from the shelf system to the retrieval platform.
