A system may include a first sensor, located along a first portion of a road, configured to: output a first reading, of a first detector, indicative of a first condition; and a controller node configured to determine, based on the first reading, whether a hazardous condition potentially exists along the first portion of the road and output a first warning message. A process for detecting a hazardous condition may positioning a sensor along a road; determining a current sensor location, determining a detector location; specifying a threshold for the condition; specifying a warning; activating the sensor; determining whether a current reading from the detector exceeds the threshold; and generating a warning.
