  • Patent number: 11450327
Abstract: Systems and methods for identifying potential bullying are disclosed. In various aspects, a system for identifying potential bullying includes a sound detector configured to provide samples of sounds over time, a processor, and a memory storing instructions. The instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the system to determine that a noise event has occurred by processing the samples to determine that the sounds exceed a sound level threshold over a time period that exceeds a time period threshold, process the samples to provide frequency spectrum information of the noise event, determine whether the noise event is a potential bullying occurrence based on comparing the frequency spectrum information of the noise event and at least one frequency spectrum profile, and initiate a bullying notification in a case of determining that the noise event is a potential bullying occurrence.

  • Patent number: 11002671
Abstract: A method of detecting a substance includes, for each position of a plurality of positions in a field of view of an environment: emitting from a light source a light beam including a predetermined wavelength that is absorbable by a constituent of the substance, controlling at least one mirror to direct the emitted light beam to the position in the field of view, detecting by a detector light resulting from the emitted light beam, and determining whether the constituent of the substance is present at the position in the field of view based on characteristics of the detected light; generating a detection map indicating a presence or an absence of the substance at the plurality of positions in the field of view of the environment; capturing, by an image capture device, an image of the environment; and identifying a portion of the captured image having the substance based on the detection map.

  • Patent number: 6332575
Abstract: A system for reading optical codes, and more particularly to code reading systems with sound signal generators, modules a sound detector detects an ambient sound level in a vicinity of the system operator and the volume of the audible indicator is controlled in response to the detected ambient sound level. The sound may be produced by a transducer located in a raised rail adjacent the system operator. Various kinds of audio signals may be produced, for example, to distinguish the system's response from those of nearby optical code reading systems or to identify the kind of optical code symbology being read or its informational content.

  • Patent number: 6115678
Abstract: A universal interface system for use with a data acquisition system including a data acquisition device such as a bar code scanner or scanner integrated terminal for providing digital data signals indicative of acquired data for transmission to a host device such as a computer, and a host device having host-specific input/output data format requirements. The universal interface system comprises universal data exchange means located in the data acquisition device for providing digital data signals in a universal data exchange format independent of the data format requirements of the host device; and a host interface cable coupled to the data acquisition device and to said host device, for transmitting acquired digital data from the data acquisition device to the host device, the interface cable comprising means for translating digital data from the universal data exchange format to the host-specific input/output data format requirements.

  • Patent number: 6047892
Abstract: A electro-optical memory includes a substrate on which is printed (or otherwise inscribed) a complex symbol or "label" or "bar code" of a high density two-dimensional symbology. The bar code contains component symbols or "codewords" which are placed in row and column formation, with a variable number of codewords per row, and a variable number of rows. The symbology utilizes implicit bar code encoding scheme for implicit encoding the number of rows and the number of columns of codewords, as well as a predetermined amount of error correction. The symbology is capable of supporting a fixed number of bar code variants, with each variant having a predetermined number of rows and columns of codewords, and a predetermined error correction capability. For some codewords the implicit encoding scheme is combined with a gray coding scheme to reduce the inter-row codeword crosstalk.
