  • Publication number: 20210329900
Abstract: A sonic stimulation and detection device includes an enclosure mounted on a fishing rod having to a fishing line attached to and extending along the rod. A microphone element is mounted in the enclosure and is acoustically coupled to the line through the enclosure and the rod line to couple sounds of fish contact with the line to the microphone. The microphone may be coupled to a headphone. A sound generator is mounted in the enclosure and is acoustically coupled to the line through the enclosure and the rod to couple fish simulating sounds generated thereby to the line to attract fish to a lure attached to the line. The enclosure is shaped to efficiently couple sounds coupled from the line to the microphone and sounds generated by the sound generator to the line.

  • Patent number: 7815137
Abstract: A fishing reel is provided having a pair of opposed sidewalls with a spool holding fishing line rotatably supported between the sidewalls. The spool is freely rotatable in a first direction to release fishing line from the bottom portion of the spool, and is mechanically rotatable in a second direction opposite to the first direction to retrieve the fishing line and to wind the line back onto the spool. A handle crank is provided for imparting rotation to the spool in the second direction by rotation of the crank in the same, second direction.

  • Patent number: 6830209
Abstract: A fishing reel with side walls includes a spool shaft rotatably supported therebetween and a level wind comprising a line guide having an eyelet therewith through which the fishing line is threaded. The spool shaft supports a spool that holds the fishing line. The level wind comprises a multiple-part transverse shaft rotatably secured between the side walls in front of the spool. The transverse shaft is adapted to be rotated by the driving gear, and is formed with a single continuous helical thread along the length thereof extending approximately 180° along the length of the shaft in a first direction and the approximately 180° along the shaft in the opposite direction. The threaded portion of the shaft is engaged by a pawl carried by the line guide.

  • Patent number: 6446895
Abstract: A fishing reel with side walls and a level wind, with a spool shaft rotatably supported therebetween. The spool shaft supports the spool that holds the fishing line. A handle shaft is provided that includes a driving gear that engages a pinion on the spool shaft for winding in the fishing line upon the spool. The level wind comprises a generally transverse shaft rotatably secured between the side walls in front of the spool. The transverse shaft is adapted to be rotated by the driving gear, and is formed with a central portion that is at an oblique angle with respect to the shaft. The obliquely-oriented portion of the shaft is rotatably captured by a member having an eyelet associated therewith through which the fishing line is threaded.

  • Patent number: 5388776
Abstract: An improved spincast fishing reel includes a feathering assembly attached to the fishing reel rotor. The feathering assembly includes a plurality of line engaging members in the form of fibers or bristles angularly extending outwardly from the rotor into the space between the reel housing and the rotor. Each of these bristles present a surface which interferingly contacts the fishing line and are deflected by contact with the fishing line. When the line is cast, the fibers or bristles are moved into this contact with the line by actuation of the pushbutton on the reel. When so contacted, a feathering action is effected on the fishing line which may be selectively controlled by actuation of the thumb button.

  • Patent number: 5118048
Abstract: An improved spinning reel is disclosed wherein the spinning reel has a rotor drag system assembly located on its handle. The rotor drag system allows the fisherman to apply a selective amount of frictional force to the reel handle and reel main drive gear. The selective frictional force, when set less than the force on the spool drag assembly, allows the reel main drive gear and the fishing reel rotor driven thereby, to remain stationary while fighting a fish, even when the reel handle is being turned. This prevents subsequent twist from being imparted to the fishing line. The rotor drag incorporates a rotor drag assembly containing an input shaft which drivingly engage the spool drive shaft. A clutch plate is provided between the reel handle and the input shaft to provide selective transmission of rotational handle force to the input shaft.

  • Patent number: 4920682
Abstract: A one-piece fishing rod handle is provided in which an integral handle portion is molded together with preformed rod handle components such as a reel seat is disclosed for use in through-rod-type construction wherein the rod blank extends axially through the entire length of the handle and foregrip. The individual preformed rod handle components are assembled onto either a mold core pin or fishing rod blank and properly registered in a mold cavity having the configuration of the finished rod handle. Molding resins such as polyurethane are then injected into the mold cavity and provide a handle portion which is bonded to the preformed reel seat. By the use of two differently dimensioned molds in conjunction with different density molding resins, dual composition one-piece fishing rod handles can also be molded.

  • Patent number: 4916848
Abstract: An improved fishing rod of the through rod construction type is disclosed. The rod includes a handle grip, handle body and a transition collar interposed therebetween and a rod blank received therethrough. The transition collar provides a smooth transition from the handle body to the grip. Additionally, the transition collar provides a means of offsetting the grip relative to the rod blank.

  • Patent number: 4850130
Abstract: A fishing rod foregrip which is slidable on the fishing rod between a first fishing reel installation or removal position and a second fishing reel engagement position is provided. The foregrip is formed from a flexible and resilient material and includes a hollow elongate hood portion which, when the foregrip is in the reel engagement position, engages the fishing rod blank, the reel seat nut assembly, and a portion of the fishing rod handle. A reel stem portion angularly extends from the hood portion to engage a portion of the fishing reel foot and reel stem. The hood portion, on its upper outer surface, is provided with a generally planar portion to serve as a thumb engagement surface.
