  • Publication number: 20130317412
Abstract: An apparatus for treatment of a medical condition of a patient to provide drainage from a region of a patient to a drainage location includes a memory having a plurality of different selectable treatment algorithms stored therein for treating a medical condition, and may include a processor associated with the memory and configured to execute one of the different treatment algorithms. It also may include a flow system controllable by the processor to regulate drainage of fluid from a body portion having a medical condition, the flow system being controllable according to a selected algorithm of said different selectable treatment algorithms. In one aspect, the apparatus further comprises an implantable medical device for treating an ocular condition, and the processor is carried on the implantable medical device.

  • Publication number: 20090030381
Abstract: A hypodermic needle for delivering a bolus of a pharmaceutically active agent to the posterior chamber of the eye having a lancet disposed at the distal tip and a lumen disposed along a longitudinal axis within. The lancet may be formed by an angled linear cut coming to a point at the distal tip of the needle, or an arc-shaped cut beginning at the needle tip parallel to the longitudinal axis and gradually arcing upward to roughly perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. Additionally, cuts, grooves, channels, or teeth may be added to the surface of the lancet in a regular or irregular pattern for the purpose of increasing surface tension on the drug bolus.

  • Publication number: 20080042861
Abstract: A safety meter system for a battery-operated surgical hand piece is disclosed. The system has a controller, a sensor, and a display. The controller is configured to read a charge level from a battery. The sensor is configured to transmit a signal to the controller when the sensor is moved or grasped. The display provides an indication of a status of the battery. When the controller receives the signal from the sensor, the controller is energized, reads the status from the battery, and displays the status on the display. After a period of time after the status is displayed, the controller and the display are turned off.

  • Publication number: 20080030170
Abstract: A safety charging system for a battery-operated surgical hand includes a charging base, a battery pack, and control logic. The charging base has an RFID reader antenna disposed near a top surface of the charging base and charge circuitry for charging the battery. The battery pack has the battery used with the hand piece and an RFID tag antenna disposed near a bottom surface of the battery pack. The control logic determines if the battery should be charged based on a data point read by the RFID reader antenna.
