  • Patent number: 7610793
Abstract: A residence time chamber and sampling apparatus for use in a system for sampling emission products from an emissions source, for example combustion engines including gasoline, diesel and natural gas engines, for subsequent measurement and analysis of the emission products. The results of the analysis can be used to formulate decisions on changes in engine design strategy, and can be used to determine the effectiveness of aftertreatment systems on the emissions source. The residence time chamber includes a plurality of isoaxial sampling probes, with a plurality of sampling trains connected to the sampling probes to take simultaneous representative emission samples for subsequent analysis. The residence time chamber minimizes many noise factors which can affect the accuracy of the test system, by applying isokinetic sampling and by reducing the interaction of the sampling gas and the particulate matter with the sampling probe inlets and with the various surfaces of the residence time chamber.

  • Patent number: 7587951
Abstract: A thermophoresis-resistant dilution apparatus for dilution of gas from an emission source, such as a combustion engine, for example a gasoline, diesel or natural gas engine. The apparatus is designed to simulate atmospheric dilution, mixing and cooling processes, enabling sampled emission gas and dilution air to thoroughly mix and cool to ambient temperature, allowing some volatile and semi-volatile gas-phase organics to nucleate, condense and coagulate to their usual aerosol phase. The apparatus is designed to resist thermophorectic forces acting on the particulate matter in the sampled emission gas, thereby preventing particulate matter losses. In addition, the apparatus evenly distributes the dilution air into the sampled gas for improved mixing.

  • Publication number: 20080077243
Abstract: An endplate for an intervertebral prosthesis prosthesis endplate of the invention includes: a generally planar base plate, a first elevated region, or dome, within the base plate periphery, and a second elevated region, or dome, within the boundary of the first elevated region. The antero-posterior and side-to-side (medial-lateral) dimensions of the first elevated region are made to be unequal in order to provide resistance to torsional stresses, and the laterally opposite sidewalls of the first elevated region are defined by arcs that terminate in sagittal planes of the endplate, and are symmetrical with respect to a coronal plane of the endplate. A bone rasp for preparing a surgical site for implantation of the prosthesis has a rasp head having a pivot point and rasp teeth arranged to produce a recess or seat of predetermined shape.

  • Publication number: 20080046082
Abstract: A prosthetic implant for replacing a nucleus pulposus of an intervertebral disk includes upper and lower endwalls of discoid cross-section, each having an antero-posterior diameter less than its transverse diameter, and an hourglass-shaped sidewall connecting the peripheries of the upper endwall and lower endwall to enclose an interior volume filled with a substantially incompressible liquid or soft plastic material. A total prosthesis for replacing the entire human intervertebral disk has an annular core made of a first biocompatible polymer surrounding a central cavity, transitional plates affixed respectively to the upper and lower surfaces of the annular core, the upper and lower transitional plates being made of a second biocompatible material having an elastic modulus greater than that of the first biocompatible polymer, and upper and lower endplates adapted to contact adjacent vertebrae and affixed respectively to the upper and lower transitional plates.

  • Patent number: 7197509
Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product are disclosed for managing an application's persistent data across multiple different release versions of the application. A format for a memory area is defined wherein the persistent data will be stored according to a first release version of the application. The format is organized to permit the application running at different release versions to access the memory area. The memory area is accessed using the application that is running at a second release version. The memory area is divided into individually accessible sections. The format includes a template file for each section for each release version.

  • Patent number: 7023459
Abstract: A method and system for providing a computer system having a plurality of logical partitions with a virtual terminal is disclosed. The computer system is coupled to an external display device through a single communications interface. The method and system include allowing the logical partitions to share the communications interface by multiplexing communications to the display device for each of the logical partitions over the communication interface. Windows are displayed on the display device for each of the logical partitions, and the communications from each of the logical partitions is then routed to the corresponding window for display on the display device.

  • Patent number: 6912625
Abstract: A method, system, and product are described for creating and managing affinity between memory and processors in logical partitions in a data processing system. The data processing system includes multiple processors. A memory affinity data structure is established. The memory affinity data structure identifies ones of the processors that have a close affinity with each one of multiple regions of the system memory. A memory affinity parameter is established and is utilized to determine whether memory affinity is required for each one of the logical partitions. In response to a determination that memory affinity is required for one of the logical partitions, the memory affinity data structure is utilized by a partition manager for the logical partition to allocate an optimal amount of memory that has a close affinity to ones of the processors that are assigned to the logical partition.
