Abstract: Metal complexes of hydroxyl- and/or thiol-containing Mannich are prepared by reacting a transition metal-containing agent with an aromatic Mannich. The Mannich is prepared from a substituted hydroxyl- and/or thiol-containing aromatic, an aldehyde or ketone, and a hydroxyl- and/or thiol-containing amine compound. A Schiff base is then reacted therewith. The products are useful in reducing soot ignition temperatures in diesel particulate traps.

Abstract: A fuel composition for internal combustion engines, and more particularly, a fuel composition for internal combustion engines containing less than about 0.5 gram of lead per gallon of fuel is described. The fuel provides acceptable valve seat protection in engines designed to operate on leaded fuels. A further aspect of the invention is to reduce deposit formation within the cylinders.

Abstract: Corrosion inhibiting additive compositions for use in alcohol and alcohol containing normally liquid hydrogen fuels derived by the reaction of at least one phosphoric acid reactant and at least one amine selected from the group consisting of morpholines and alkanolamines and alcohol and alcohol containing normally liquid hydrocarbon fuels containing said additive compositions are disclosed.

Abstract: Disclosed are manganese and copper-containing compositions comprising:(A) a manganese containing compound and(B) a copper containing compound,wherein said composition contains from about 0.05 up to about 23 g-atoms of manganese for each g-atom of copper in said composition. Also disclosed are fuel compositions and additive concentrates containing said manganese and copper-containing compositions. Additionally, disclosed is a method for reducing ignition temperature of exhaust particulate from diesel engines which comprises operating said engine using the above-described fuel compositions.

Abstract: A fuel composition for internal combustion engines, and more particularly, a fuel composition for internal combustion engines containing less than about 0.5 gram of lead per liter of fuel is described. The fuel composition comprises a major amount of a liquid hydrocarbon fuel and a minor, property improving amount of(A) at least one hydrocarbon-soluble alkali or alkaline earth metal-containing composition, and(B) at least one hydrocarbon-soluble ashless dispersant.When a mixture of the metal-containing composition (A) and the ashless dispersant (B) are incorporated into gasolines containing less than about 0.5 gram of lead per liter of fuel, the treated fuel exhibits improved stability and water tolerance, and when the unleaded or low lead-containing fuels of the present invention are utilized in internal combustion engines, there is a significant reduction in valve seat recession.
