  • Publication number: 20080069688
Abstract: An annular fan casing of a gas turbine engine includes a plurality of fan track liner panels, secured to the radially inner surface of the fan casing. The panels are secured using mechanical fasteners, which are secured into non-load-bearing regions of the fan casing so as not to compromise the load-carrying or containment functions of the fan casing.

  • Publication number: 20070297910
Abstract: A liner panel for a fan casing of a gas turbine engine comprises a honeycomb layer, a septum layer and an abradable layer. The fan casing is provided with a containment system in case of fan blade failure. In use ice may be released from a fan blade in a first direction, and (in the case of a blade-off event) a fan blade or part of a fan blade may be released in a second direction. The panel is characterised in that its compressive strength is greater in the first direction than in the second direction such that the released ice will be deflected by the panel but the released fan blade or part of a fan blade will pass through the panel.

  • Publication number: 20070036644
Abstract: A clip used to attach an acoustic panel to a fan casing of a gas turbine engine is ā€œUā€ shaped. One arm of the clip is provided with spacing means cut into the material of the arm and which may be bent to define the spacing between the outer face of the arm and a support. Engagement means, which may also be cut into the material of the clip, may be bent to engage a recess in a tenon inserted into the receiving means.

  • Publication number: 20050271503
Abstract: A gas turbine engine rotor blade containment assembly (38) comprising a generally cylindrical, or frustoconical, casing (40). The casing (40) having at least one member (54) and the member (54) has a first portion (53) extending radially from the casing (40) and a second portion (55) extending axially from the first portion (53) of the member (54). At least one cassette (80) being provided and one or more liner panels (74) being arranged in each cassette (80). A first end (84) of each cassette (80) being locatable on the second portion (55) of the member (54) and the first end (84) of each cassette (80) being shaped to correspond to the shape of the first and second portions (53,55) of the at least one member (54) to protect the first and second portions (53,55) of the at least one member (54). The second end (86) of each cassette (80) having at least one axially extending member (96) removably securable to the casing (40).

  • Publication number: 20050129520
Abstract: A vane mounting arrangement 21, 31 is provided in which a vane 22, 32 is secured through a mounting end 23, 33 within an aperture 25, 35 formed in a mounting platform 24, 34. An expandable or expansive member 26, 36 is located between the mounting end 33 and the aperture 35 in order to create compressive engagement between the mounting end 33 and the aperture 25, 35 of the platform 24, 34. The member 26, 36 is hollow with a fluid within a cavity 27, 37 in order to create the desired pressurised location by selective expansion. Thus, the assembly 21, 31 through the expandable members 26, 36 achieves a seal along with vibration decoupling and appropriate presentation of the vane 22, 32 relative to the platform 24, 34.
