  • Patent number: 10819821
Abstract: The present technology provides a new content-based centrality metric that may be used for allocating content to caches in a network. The proposed method for measuring centrality and allocating content not only considers the topology of the network, but also the distribution of cache spaces and content among the cache spaces in the network in order to improve how content may be allocated. This approach to content allocation enables improved content retrieval in the form of higher cache hit rates, lower delays and improved network performance.

  • Patent number: 10819645
Abstract: The disclosure relates to technology for a 360 degree video stream in a network. A network round trip time (RTT) is measured for a requested FoV of the 360 degree video stream, where the RTT indicates a time interval between sending a FoV interest message and receiving a response message in reply to the requested FoV. The network bandwidth is measured for the requested FoV of the 360 degree video stream, where the measured network bandwidth represents an amount of data the network transmits in the response message. A future FoV of the 360 degree video stream is then determined based on the requested FoV, the measured network bandwidth and the measured network RTT, and a video stream is prefecthced for the future FoV of the 360 degree video stream.

  • Patent number: 10673763
Abstract: A method implemented in a network element (NE) configured to operate in an information centric network (ICN) including receiving a test traffic flow as a copy of a traffic flow in a forwarding plane of the ICN during a defined interval, emulating the ICN at a state determined at an arrival time of the test traffic flow based on an active traffic flow in the ICN, measuring a first impact of a first candidate path for the test traffic flow in the emulated ICN to the active traffic flow, selecting the first candidate path based on the first impact measurement, and constructing a forwarding rule based on the state and the selection of the first candidate path.

  • Patent number: 10484271
Abstract: Interest packets are provided that include a dual control plane and forwarding plane function that avoids the asymmetry associated with traditional information centric networking. Interest packets are used to update the control plane for routing purposes, as well as to request data from the content caches and providers. Instead of identifying a return path, the interest packets include an identifier of other content advertised by the client device issuing the interest packet. An advertised content identifier is stored in a data structure with an identification of the corresponding client device. Data packets include the advertised content identifier of the corresponding interest packet, in addition to the name of the requested content. When a data packet is received for requested content, the advertised content identifier is used to determine where to route the data packet.

  • Patent number: 10469348
Abstract: Various embodiments include methods and apparatus structured to cache items of content in an information-centric network (ICN). The caching of the items of content can be based on a centrality metric for the node related to connectivity of the node to other nodes within the network of nodes and to popularity of each of the items being stored. The storing of items not currently stored in the network may be made, in an iterative process, by storing each item in a cache of a node having lowest centrality metric of the nodes, in order of decreasing popularity from a most popular item, until the cache of the node is filled. Additional apparatus, systems, and methods can be implemented in a variety of applications.

  • Patent number: 10148721
Abstract: The disclosure relates to technology for network coding a video stream in an information centric network. A network node breaks a media segment (e.g., a video segment) into chunks. The chunks for one media segment are then encoded into network encoded chunks, each of which may be a linear combination of the chunks for that media segment. Thus, a number of network encoded chunks for a media segment are generated. These network encoded chunks may be provided to a client in response to a request for content in an information centric network (ICN). When the client receives enough network encoded chunks, the client decodes them to produce the original chunks for that media segment. The client may perform bit-rate adaptation based on the time it takes to receive a media segment. The client may view the communication interfaces as a logical communication link upon which to perform rate adaptation.

  • Patent number: 10062414
Abstract: The disclosure relates to technology for providing determined future fields of view (FoVs) of a 360 degree video stream in a network having multiple video streams corresponding to multiple FoVs. FoV interest messages including requests for FoVs at time instants of the video stream are collected from viewers of the stream. A sequence of popular FoVs is created according to the messages, each representing a frequently requested FoV at a distinctive time instant. FoV transitions are created according to the FoV interest messages, each FoV transition including a current FoV a time instant and a next FoV of a next time instant, indicating a likely next FoV to be subsequent requested. Future FoVs of future time instants are determined for a user viewing the video stream with a history of requested FoVs of past time instants, based on the history of requested FoVs, the sequence and the transitions.

  • Patent number: 9838459
Abstract: A content controller monitors current network capacity usage and ongoing streaming data requests. Based on the collected information, the content controller assigns a data segment prefetching task to a data storage (e.g., a cache) of the network. One or several caches can be used to prefetch one or more data segments, depending on the network conditions and the speed with which a data store can retrieve the data over the network. The task assignment is performed for a given period of time, which is defined as a round. Periodically, the controller uses information collected from previous rounds, such as the history of streaming data requests and bandwidth usage, to determine the data segments to be prefetched by data stores in the next round.
