Abstract: The design of items for storage is today defined by containers that are primarily of fixed external dimensions and do not adjust to the quantity of their contents. It would be beneficial to provide a means of allowing an item of storage, such as a backpack, lunch tote, briefcase, that adjusts automatically in dependence upon the contents that the user placed within. It would be further beneficial if the means could be deployed on a variety of other storage items giving a “one size fits” such that with only a few items stored within it the storage item does not occupy unnecessary space.
