  • Publication number: 20250225714
Abstract: In one implementation, we propose to change the decoding process of blocks within V-PCC patches by directly decoding blocks at reduced resolutions, allowing a less computationally intensive rendering of the point cloud. In one example, based on the rendering information from the renderer, we evaluate for each patch, for each block component of the patches, or for each pixel of the patches, if the corresponding reconstructed point will be viewed by the user after the rendering process and which decimation level could be selected without impairing significantly the rendering quality. Based on the evaluation results, we decide whether to render or not the current area and at which resolution. In one approach, we compare the distance to the screen to a ranges of distance thresholds. In another approach, we compare the distance in the screen coordinate of the projection of two adjacent points of the block.

  • Publication number: 20210272323
Abstract: At least a method and an apparatus are presented for efficiently encoding or decoding video. For example, a 2-D patch of the point cloud is obtained by projecting 3-D points of the point cloud onto a projection plane, the patch having a plurality of pixels. The patch is divided into a plurality of smaller blocks. The number of pixels is determined within each of the plurality of smaller blocks. An updated occupancy map is obtained based on the determined number of pixels within each of the plurality of smaller blocks. A reconstructed point cloud is obtained based on the updated occupancy map, wherein the reconstructed point cloud is a less dense representation of the point cloud.

  • Publication number: 20210201541
Abstract: The present principles generally relate to encoding and decoding of a point cloud representing the geometry of a point cloud representing a 3D object. According to the invention, prediction is used in the encoding process of the splitting information of the local octree-based structure and/or in the 10 encoding process of the occupancy information of the leaf cubes of the local octree-based structure. A predictor of the local octree-based structure is used for determining the context of the context-dependent entropy encoding in order to reduce the number of bits needed for the octree encoding.

  • Publication number: 20170180437
Abstract: In a staggercasting system, a receiver estimates a delivery time of a packet from a main stream and, if the packet from the main stream is not received at the estimated delivery time, the receiver substitutes a corresponding packet from the stagger stream. As a result, a loss can be detected quicker since the receiver does not have to wait until detection of a missing sequence number and, therefore, the receiver can accommodate the time of presentation such that the user does not suffer a loss in quality of service.
