  • Patent number: 10637838
Abstract: Systems and methods for secure communications between mobile applications installed on a user's mobile device. In some embodiments, a first application installed on a user's mobile device generates a key and transmits the key and a message to a server, where the message is to be communicated to a second application. According to disclosed embodiments, there is no limit on the size or a type of data included in the message. The server receives the message and the key from the first application. The first application shares the key with the second application which is then transmitted to the server for authenticating the second application. Upon authenticating the second application, the server transmits the message to the second application. In some embodiments, the applications and/or the server exchanges data with goods/services providers associated with the applications.

  • Patent number: 8866452
Abstract: An electronic system includes a controller that controls switching in a switching power converter in accordance with a dynamically determined, minimum line voltage switching threshold based on one or more operating parameters of the electronic system. In at least one embodiment, the one or more operating parameters of the electronic system include power utilization of a load. The controller utilizes the dynamically determined, minimum line voltage switching threshold to determine when to enable and disable switching in the switching power converter. Since the controller bases determination of the dynamically determined, minimum line voltage switching threshold on power utilization of the load, the controller operates more efficiently by reducing switching losses while still meeting power demand by the load.

  • Patent number: 8849820
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for providing devices capable of the reception and playback of one or more crafted media channels transmitted over an intermittent connection. An exemplary method of personalized rendering of media content includes receiving media files and file metadata defining attributes of the media files over a data link at a receiver. The method further includes executing, using a processor of the receiver, instructions stored in a memory of the receiver. The instructions cause the processor to store certain ones of the media files characterized by file metadata consistent with one or more channel profiles in the memory, remove certain of the ones of the media files stored within the memory, and sequence the ones of the media files stored within the memory for rendering based upon one or more of the channel profiles.

  • Patent number: 8712563
Abstract: A system, method, and machine-readable medium are disclosed for the controlled, non-real-time conveyance of digital content for playback. Digital content and associated metadata are marked, rated, categorized, and then converted into encoded digital data. The resulting encoded digital data is transmitted as a plurality of data streams through a communications facility such as a satellite, wireless, or physical network. The data streams are received by a content receiver where they are decoded into metadata and digital content for controlled conveyance and playback. A digital content management module comprising a content selection algorithm compares metadata associated with candidate digital content to a predetermined content selection profile. If the metadata matches predetermined selection parameters of the selection profile, the candidate digital content and its associated metadata are stored in a machine-readable medium for controlled conveyance and playback.

  • Publication number: 20080258986
Abstract: Antenna arrays configured to produce directional antenna beam patterns are described. An antenna array produces a Hi antenna beam pattern and a Lo antenna beam pattern. Based on received satellite information, a mechanically scanning directional antenna system operates to adjust the azimuth direction of the antenna between the two beam patterns to maintain optimum satellite signal reception at different geographical locations and different elevation angles. In one embodiment an antenna mechanically adjusts direction based on geographical location information such as latitude and longitude received by a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver. In another embodiment, an antenna mechanically adjusts its direction based on received satellite quality metrics such as signal to noise ratio, bit error rate, and/or received power, and uses these signal quality metrics to track the satellite.

  • Publication number: 20080097967
Abstract: A method and apparatus for receiving and selectively storing digital content broadcasted through a communication channel via any transmission means, while interacting with said digital content in a content receiver unit. Digital content and associated metadata are received, associated metadata is analyzed, and then both are selectively stored based on such analysis. In one embodiment, current digital content is received and stored by the content receiver unit, while the oldest digital content is discarded, in a first in-first out (FIFO) fashion. In another embodiment, current digital content is received by a content receiver unit, metadata is analyzed in regards to content selection criteria in addition to available memory, and digital content and associated metadata is selectively stored based on such analysis. In still another embodiment of the present invention, metadata associated with selectively stored digital content is analyzed further for selective playback of said digital content.

  • Patent number: 6922448
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method of an upstream power back-off in a very high rate Digital Subscriber Line (VDSL) system. The method is based on a global desired receive PSD (GDR PSD), which is used to determine an upstream power back-off algorithm. The GDR PSD is transmitted from the transceiver at the LT to the NT during initialization. The NT determines an upstream transmit power spectral density for data transmission using the received GDR PSD and a determined insertion loss of the loop on which it resides.
