Patent number: 8874583Abstract: Tags on documents are clustered using tag weightings of the tags on the documents. Each cluster includes an identified subject. The identified subjects are compared to identify relationships between the identified subjects. A taxonomy of subjects is built using the identified relationships between the identified subjects programmatically without user intervention.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 2012Date of Patent: October 28, 2014Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Colin Leonard Bird, Timothy David Catt, Thomas Alan Clabon, David John Gordon Robert Rankine, James Edwin Jerome Thompson, Cerys Willoughby

Patent number: 8645381Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a novel and non-obvious method, system and computer program product for generating a document taxonomy based upon tag data in groupings of tags. In an embodiment of the invention, a method for generating a document taxonomy based upon tag data in groupings of tags has been claimed. The method includes retrieving into memory of a host computer different groupings of tags for correspondingly different documents providing a bottom-up view of the documents. The method further includes deriving a folksonomy from the groupings of tags for the documents and organizing the folksonomy into a hierarchy of nodes. Of note, each of the nodes can be associated with a different subject in the folksonomy. Finally, the method includes publishing the hierarchy of nodes as a taxonomy for the documents to provide a top-down view of the documents.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 2011Date of Patent: February 4, 2014Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Helen C. Buss, Cerys Willoughby

Patent number: 8620922Abstract: A method and system for generating a taxonomy for documents from tag data are provided. The method includes obtaining tag data in the form of tags on documents with tag weightings for a document and clustering the tags using the tag weightings for documents, wherein each cluster is an identified subject. The documents are associated with each identified subject and the subjects are compared to identifying relationships between subjects to build a taxonomy of subjects. A tag weighting for a document is the number of times the tag is applied to the document with a user rating of the relevance of the tag to the document. The steps are carried out automatically without user intervention.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2012Date of Patent: December 31, 2013Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Colin Leonard Bird, Timothy David Catt, Thomas Alan Clabon, David John Gordon Robert Rankine, James Edwin Jerome Thompson, Cerys Willoughby

Publication number: 20120173974Abstract: In an embodiment of the invention, a method for managing socialized help in a networked computing application is provided. The method includes receiving, from a help authoring user in a graphical user interface (GUI) rendered for the help authoring user, a specification of a designated region of the GUI, storing help text authored by the help authoring user in connection with the designated region, detecting a help request by a help consuming user in association with a region of a GUI rendered for the help consuming user and corresponding to the designated region, retrieving the help text authored by the help authoring user in connection with the designated region, and rendering the help text in the GUI rendered for the help consuming user.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 31, 2010Publication date: July 5, 2012Applicant: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: James S.
