  • Publication number: 20230407007
Abstract: A process for continuously preparing copolyamides by copolymerizing at least one lactam (A) and monomers (M), comprising the steps of a) mixing at least one lactam (A) with monomers (M) at a temperature of 60 to 150° C. and b) passing the mixture obtained in step a) from the top downward through a vertical polymerization tube at polyamide-forming temperatures to obtain a copolyamide, wherein the monomers (M) comprise at least one C32-C40 dimer acid (B1) and at least one C4-C12 diamine (B2) and optionally at least one C4-C20 diacid (B3).

  • Publication number: 20170029566
Abstract: A method produces a polyamide having an extractable fraction of oligomer of from 2 to 10 percent. The method includes introducing a monomer into a reactor and polymerizing the monomer to form a first intermediate having an extractable fraction of oligomer of greater than 10 percent, wherein the oligomer is a compound of 2 to 20 units of the monomer. The method includes transferring the first intermediate from the reactor into an extractor and introducing water into the extractor to form a second intermediate having an extractable fraction of oligomer that is less than the extractable fraction of the first intermediate, wherein the water is introduced at a temperature of less than 100° C. and wherein the water includes 0.1 to 3.0 weight percent of a plasticizer. Moreover, the method includes transferring the second intermediate into a dryer and applying air at a temperature of less than 125° C.

  • Patent number: 8501898
Abstract: A method polymerizes a monomer to form a polyamide having a reagent incorporated therein. In the method, a masterbatch is formed that includes the reagent. The masterbatch and the monomer are introduced into a reactor, and the monomer is polymerized in the presence of the reagent to form the polyamide having the reagent incorporated therein. The monomer may be a caprolactam monomer that may be polymerized in a VK tube reactor to form polyamide 6 having at least one free acid site. The reagent may be present in an amount of from 1 to 10 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the masterbatch. Additionally, the masterbatch and caprolactam may be introduced into the top of the VK tube reactor.

  • Patent number: 8389653
Abstract: A urethane coating is formed by a reaction of a hydroxy-functional resin and a blocked isocyanate crosslinker. A method of catalyzing this reaction includes forming a polymeric ligand from the resin and/or the crosslinker. The method also includes incorporating a metal catalyst with the polymeric ligand to complex the metal catalyst with the polymeric ligand. The method further includes reacting resin and the crosslinker to form the urethane coating.

  • Patent number: 7902287
Abstract: The present invention provides a polyamide resin composition and a method of preparing the composition. The composition includes a first polyamide resin, a second polyamide resin different from the first, a transition metal, and a lubricant. The first polyamide resin has an extractable fraction of nylon 6 oligomer at least one percent as determined by ISO 6427. The composition is optimized for relative viscosity, viscosity number, moisture content, and an amount of extractables.
