  • Patent number: 5509607
Abstract: A lance tube for a sootblower device for cleaning internal surfaces of large scale combustion devices. The lance tube includes two sets of nozzles for ejecting fluid cleaning media. A readily accessible fluid flow restriction device is positioned between the two sets of nozzles and accommodates interchangeable plug elements providing different fluid flow restrictions. One set of nozzles is optimized for steam as the cleaning media whereas the other is designed for ejecting water. This lance tube configuration is especially adapted for selectively ejecting steam or water blowing medium as cleaning requirements dictate.

  • Patent number: 5144125
Abstract: An apparatus and method is disclosed for a fiber optic based fire detection and tracking system. An optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) interrogates at least one optical fiber with a melting point defining a threshold temperature for fire detection. The OTDR measure the time of flight of a light pulse originating at each optical fiber input end and reflected back to determine the linear position of interruptions along an optical fiber which allows for fire detection and location.

  • Patent number: 5086220
Abstract: A monitor for measuring the temperature distribution of a product (12) including a plurality of ball lenses (14) lying in a lenticular array (18) across the product (12). A signal processor (22) is connected to a photodiode array (20). Each photodiode in the array (20) is connected by a separate optical fiber (16) to one of the ball lenses (14).
