    Abstract: Provided are a motor and a washing machine using the motor. The motor has a stator, a rotor, a rotor frame, a permanent magnet, and a comb polarizing ring. The rotor rotates against the stator. The permanent magnet is installed on the rotor frame and has protrusions with alternating North and South polarities. The comb polarizing ring includes a plurality of teeth disposed between the protrusions of the permanent magnet, and is formed of a material with a magnetism that is weaker than a magnetism of the protrusions.

    Abstract: A driving device and a method of driving a washing machine is disclosed. The efficiency of the motor of the washing machine is enhanced and the capacity of an inverter is reduced thereby reducing manufacturing costs. The driving device includes a variable motor, of which the rotational speed varies to apply a driving force to a drum to rotate, an inverter to convert a direct current voltage into an alternating current voltage and to vary a voltage applied to the variable motor, and an inverter driver to compare a control signal with a carrier to drive the inverter by pulse width modulation. A frequency of the carrier wave is varied for the pulse width modulation.

    Abstract: A refrigerator includes a cold water dispenser mounted in the door thereof to enable water to be dispensed without the door being opened. The dispenser includes a housing mounted in the door and forming a dispensing chamber. A manually actuable lever is swingably mounted to the housing and is accessible exteriorly of the door. A hollow cylinder is mounted to the housing and extends into the refrigerating compartment. The cylinder forms a water conduit having a water outlet in the chamber and an upwardly facing water inlet spaced from the outlet. A slide is reciprocable in the cylinder and is pushed by swinging the lever. A water storage vessel is mounted on the cylinder so that a valved water passage on a lower portion thereof communicates with the water inlet. By pushing the lever, the slide is pushed to lift the valve to enable water to travel from the vessel to the water outlet.
